hey all, heres my new EL GLi

Postby nath » September 4th, 2008, 11:46 pm

hey my names nathan im 17 and have just brought a 96 EL GLi, it was fully stock when i got it with 170,000 k's on the clock with the head just been re-done, it idles a little bit rough but that should be sorted with new plug leads and the paintwork is also a lil bit messy with a fair few scratches down the sides and a few chips at the front but nothing to major, i ve put a 2.5 inch cat back exhaust on today and will be soon to lower it with superlows in the front and ultralows at the back which will be followed by a new sound system and possibly a set of BA XR6 rims with EL stud pattern. Later on im really hoping to turbo it and then posibly convert it to manual .

Anyway heres a few pics from just after getting it rego'd,, still needs a wash and hasnt got the 2.5 inch pipe on when these wer taken.

Welcome mate, I also own a el Gli although its a late 97 and it had 143k when I bought it. Another thing in common, we both had 2.5 catbacks fitted yesterday :D . You happy with yours? I dunno bout your plan to put supers in the front and ultras in the back, Ive heard some people do that to get their car level but Ive got supers all around and my car sits a lil lower in the back still, specially when the tanks full of fuel. Level car is perfect, you dont wanna be watchin the aeroplanes ;)

Yeh dumpsta im happy with my cat back got it off me girlfriends brother for $100 so i couldnt really pass it up :D and with the super/ultra low idea the idea was to get it to sit level, but if its too low in the rear 2 more superlow springs are only 100 sumthin bucks so ill just get some for the rear to match the front and then i wont be watchin planes any longer haha, And the grill wat can be done with the EL grills? just paint em? i wouldnt mind doin sumthin with mine its lookin a bit average right now

If the rear is too low for the front SL, just throw some SSL in the front to match :P

Theres a thread in Int/Ext about EL Grills, just cbf looking for it atm.

They all have the same stud pattern, its the offset which differs (+36 AU+, 0 to +6 for Pre AU) ;)

yer phat el was thinken why go all super lows when i can go all SSL, mite just have to go a bit slower over then bumps and drive ways.

thanks dumpsta yer im not really fond of the mesh look was thinken bout just geting the grill and mirrors paint same color as the car just to neaten it up a little, were you planing on doin sumthing special with your grill?

my bad krisisdog  haha owell differant offset BA XR rims for it then

Nah I think Im sorta happy with mine how it is now, Ive tried thinking of something unique as a bit of a project but.. its pretty limited. Thought bout stamping Ford in italic on the bottom mesh in black but figured it could look junk, dad tried tellin me the mesh needed to be black  . It'll do.

Tyre shine doesnt just work for rubber ;) I even put some on my B-Pillar the other day and gee it looked schmik. Althought they will state on the can that it is a dis-attractant for dust and grime etc.. its actually the opposite on plastic, my car was dirty.. and the b-pillar was just coated in dust and filthy compared to the windows and body around it.

Sure.. all tyre shine is the same as far as I can see.. the $2 cans from Crazy Clarks works just as well as the $14 cans from Repco. 7 cans for the price of one.. ;) Splash it on.
