Biggest Epic Fail with home car repairs/installs

Postby Frost » September 10th, 2008, 10:24 pm

After reading another thread and talking about roadworthys and subs being loose reminded me of when I was new to the car scene and installed my first sub.

But my biggest epic home install fail was running the power cable through the massive crack in the firewall. Was like that for almost 6months and was constantly adjusting the clutch, wasnt until the roadworthy guy said "what do you call this?"
But that was my biggest fail with a home job

My biggest would be that I somehow twice (once on each side in the same session) pushed a jack up through the sill panels of a car a few years back.

My repair job on my right hand side skirt was an epic fail. It looked fine when it went on the car, but it recracked again. So I've got a big arse crack in the skirt.

There was also an incident when fitting the EF mirrors, when we drilled right through into the base of the a-pillar. I had to drill that extra hole in the door to fit them, but I really should have had the door open at the time!

lol i have done that

i rushed my new amps i got last year and didnt screw them to anything,

went out for a drive with some mates and totally forgot about the amps, did some skids and drifting and they went flying around my boot and the fuse i had was to big so i basically melted the internals of my battery when the power cables came off the amps and jammed under my sub box shorting against my wheel arch inside the boot

scared the shit out of me at the time, pretty funny tho when i think about it.

Brand new 5L PS pump, broke the low pressure fitting (which is plastic and molded into the housing of the pump) within 10 seconds of trying to put it in.

Mutliple silly moments with jacks, all of them ford scissor jacks.

last July -2007- I adjusted the rockers in the maverick. Had a left over vac hose that I couldnt find a home for after looking for ages. Chucked a bolt in it and tucked it away somewhere.

August 2008 adjust rockers again. Find out that the vacuum line was the advance for my dizzy. Plug it in and car has twice the power. :|

You must drive like my Mum.

Ive done the same a few times. Blew 1 amp once in the EB and managed to make a sub box flip upside down in the mav. The amp was mounted on the top before I left, when I got home the amp was under the box and the sub was pointing in the opposite direction. :S

lol yeh maby.
i think its jus cause of how the amp and sub sit. with a bit of shit stacked around them usually.
and the amp is a big heavy prick so sits pretty well.
plus i got some excess cable so they dont get caught up.

Changing Rims over late at night on my drive way (bit of an incline), hadn't had any sleep,
Used two jacks (stock ones you get from the boot),
Jack Rear RHS up, and Front LHS up at the same time (though it would be faster to remove two wheels at once),
As i was jacking one of them up while the other jack was up, I saw the car starting to move, both jacks bent and nearly had the car sitting on its bum...
bad move..

ABS = spongy brakes, but you'll slow to about 60

non-ABS = lock up at 100 & skid past the roo doing about 95. But you'll look sick doing it
