*EDIT* actually, I'd LOVE an 8-series BMW after the demise of the EB...

There's an 840 at car supermarket (maroondah hwy) for around $25k at the moment. Had a look yesterday, it's beautiful!

I've already moved on from e-series, but I'll keep the ED until it's written off... it's just not worth selling and it's still fun to drive in a thrash-car sense. I'd like to change/move on from the BMW again, but it's hard justifying money on a fast car, or making a car faster when 99% of it's time is spent on public roads with coppers and speed cameras etc... it just doesn't seem to make as much sense as it used to. IF I do decide move on though, it'll be a JZA80 RZ with big single (aka fast), or a nice VYSS ute (aka practical).

- Single spot brakes

Fixed without too much trouble
- Chassis to sloppy for sharp off centre steering

Fail. EA chassis is the same as AU chassis. Front end is different, see above point.
- Everyone has got one.

AU's are taxi's. Nuff said.
- Oil leaks and pre AU i6's go hand in hand

Because AU's don't leak trans fluid/power steering fluid? $400 AU I6 conversion to fix.
- Don't feel as solid as AU-BF IMO

You know what they say about opinions. It would be safe to say you're in the minority in preferring the styling of an AU to an EF-EL.

AU's make great temporary parts holders, you have to wonder if that's why Ford built them. They also helped EF-EL and BA-BF 2nd hand car prices to no end. And it gave Ford a massive kick in the arse to start building better cars again.

I'll probably be driving an E-Series of some sort for years to come, Dan is spot on, theres nothing better for the money out there. My parents bought an OG-spec 98 EL GLi Sapphire in Regency the other week, 150k for $2800.

Reasons to trade in a T2 TE50
- isn't a T3
- it's an AU
- looks like arse
- no one will ever respect it
- makes you hang around on forums for cars that aren't yours, for what reason we don't know
- makes f*ck all power and runs shit slow 1/4 times, even with $7k spent on the engine
- it's an AU
- owners of said model should f*ck off

lol at t2te50 again bagging out e-series.

I'm running the EA into the ground at the moment. It's not worth selling, as I'd struggle to get a grand back for it. It's still a tidy car though, and besides the occasional gremlins, it's still running alright. What I like about it is it's just fun. I can thrash the living hell out of it and not worry about what it's doing to the resale value etc.

If AU's are shit what are E series?? Don't go there mate, drive one (good one) and then judge. Too many here like to go off like grenades without sufficient knowledge on the topic at hand

oh god...not again....
t2te50, question was, how long will you be in an eseries....you're going off topic, so shhhhhh.....sit in the corner like a good girl....

that said, been in an AU classic (oxy-moron and a half) and they are quite a nice ride, smooth etc. only problem is that they look like the N end of a S bound camel. (a camels arse T2).

cheap as styling/bang for buck/cheap trash pig/cheap base for turbo/stroker build = e-series (stock eseries looks better than top notch AU IMO)

as a footnote to that, even my fiance, who knows nothing about cars hate AU's specifically and places them in a category with hyundai and kia purely based on their look. they look 'sad and ugly as feck'.

You're just looking at AUs through rose-coloured glasses because you own one. The same is/was true of most people on this site regarding e-series, difference is the styling of our cars doesn't make young children cry and we know our cars are shit. You haven't realised yours is yet.

Sufficient knowledge on the topic at hand? I would've thought with your vast experience you would've known better than to buy a piston-slapping AU, and then to spend that kind of money on it. Visually your car looks like a resprayed taxi with a few cardboard bodykit additions.

How does this thread even apply to you? The title is "How much longer do you think you will own an E-Series?" You're obviously not here for the light chit chat, go make some friends on the LS1 forums or something. They'll love you there.

lol!!

Something must have gone seriously wrong in your life T2, to hang around a forum not made for you car only so you can talk your car up.

Did you get bashed in high school for not fitting in and suffer head injuries? Did your Mum drink the bong water when she was pregnant? Did the drop in value of AU T2TE50's have a severe effect on your psychological well being?

There is something wrong with you. We are all sick of your shit. AFF was sick of your shit, fordmods is sick of your shit.

Take your super awesome mid 14 second car (lol) and 200cm, 100kg frame and log on somewhere else. Oh wait, there is no where else to go for an AU owner who thinks mid 14's and AU styling is the be all and end all of performance and luxury automobiles.

Reasons why not to be T2TE50.
-27 years old.
-Cant make friends on the internet when it works for everyone else.
-Spent $7k on 14.4 at less than 100mph.
-Changes fan belts, jump starts cars and calls for a tow truck for a living.

Where is the 5 MPH difference justifying spending $7k :?: especially when mine is a STOCK EARLY SERIES ONE 185KW

Hey I didn't bring the AU into it. I was just making a case to sell E-series. People are just hell bent on bagging the T2. Inferiority complex, feel insecure in life?? who knows?? All I know there's a small majority here that need their head checks.

How long's a piece of string? I don't plan on getting another car. The gf wants a Focus XR5 so that'll be good enough as a daily while mine's off the road for upgradings.

Im going to attempt to bring this back on topic.

I dont plan on selling the ED, all the money I have spent on it I would never get back, and it has been very good to me. At some point in about 4 years or so I plan on getting a BF F6 Typhoon but I plan on keeping the ED still because I will most definitely turbo it as it will be legal for me then.

Plus I don't see the point in selling something that's doing the job already. Other people may think differently but that's my opinion.

Well with the skyline on the market and a potential buyer... I would say the EL would be up on the market shortly too for something a little newer.

Just waiting on the 4Runner to come back into my hands then the EL will be on the market.

Thinking of going for a BA falcon, futura or fairmont. duel fueling it and making it look good (dump, wheels, etc) and using it as a daily runner that looks good.

I'm also keeping a look out for something old again for cruises like XT,XW,XY,XA,XB,XC, kingswoods, Beetles, minis, etc

Exactly my thoughts... the only thing worth anything on mine is the driveline.. probably drive this around for a year or so, then out come the goodies and into something hot!

more likeley a nc fairlane or ltd or i'd settle for a eb ed
02 vx commodore.
Basically stock. Might fit a ls1 and manual eventually.

Oh and a 93 dc 2 Ltd. Rusting away. Past the point of being saved

Lol, funny as post :D

Dishing out reality checks to people who think they are teh super-human-driving-ship-man is actually probably the funnest thing about owning an e-series.

It never, ever, gets old

P.S. I'm pretty sure I've read a lot about those old 8 series beemers catching fire frequently due to possibly wiring/fuel line faults....might have only been the V12s though, can't remember any details. If you get one, insure it :p

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

I've read about the V12s having electrical issues due to early 90s quality control (yes, for their supposed Supercar), plus doubling up on everything since the V12's top end was like 2x I6s mirrored

LS1. Fixed.

It certainly is the most awesome looking BMW since the M1.

I guess its possible I'll grow out of the E-series fad, but its still my plan to boost a El fairmont someday. Theres just something about driving an older car thats modified, I can respect a P-plater driving a done up Cortina or E-series etc much more then a P-plater driving a Ba or Bf Falcon. One thing I'll never understand is people taking out loans for a car...
