TE/MkIV Cortina

My mates wanting to get a TE cortina as a project, eventually doing it up into a drag/street car, decided to muck around on photoshop with one and show him what it could look like, absolutley love it myself, dunno which I prefer between the black and colour coded trim though..

Yeah sort of sets it off, definitly the nicest imo as well, Im not quite sure how to change the car colour yet. Wheels are IDluxury 323.

Haha sounds good, knowing me mate, he'll have all that planned anyway. Not a big fan of blowers through the bonnet myself, why wreck a good bonnet when you could have a snail concealed underneath? Forgot to add the cooler on that one but heres another I did for him, same wheels with a bit more grunt.. from the front.

Mucked around a little bit more on the first one cause it definitly needs staggered fitment wheels and a bit more power. Gotta love huge dish.

Looks good but you won't fit anything bigger than a 205 tyre in the back without some tub work.

Cortina's are an awesome car to have as a weekend/project, falcon engine only you don't have the extra few 100k'g to cart around. 150rwkw in a TE should see you a mid 13 second pass.

150rwkw with a decent drivetrain in a Corty will see low 12s, it's been done plenty of times before.

Me mates looking at putting a 250xflow in, not that hes actually got the cortina yet. Would a 4.0 I6 fit in without much hassle?

Yeah still yet to see one that I like also, bah most have hornet scoops and dragways etc and i detest scoops and dragracing wheels . I love the pic I did but never seen one look like that in reality. If anyone knows, would 18's fit under a cortina with a 9inch diff, what work would need to be done?

To fit a 9" in the first place, lots of work will need to be done. If you're fitting a 9", tubbing the rear to fit bigger wheels will be childs play in comparison.

An e-series 4.0 will drop in, getting it running is the biggest challenge (which isn't that hard). Again it's been done quite a few times in the past.

I was gonna suggest a hornet scoop and Weld Draglite wheels lol

Yep, well hes definitly going to change the diff, Whats the price comparison of a decent 4.0ltr to a 250xflow and power comparison?

Don't use a 4L if you're going n/a because you're too limeted by cam size, 250 crossflow is the best for n/a.
If it's turbo then well it's really upto you.

An e-series motor will not drop in lol, requires a fair bit of modifications. getting it running is the easy part if it's a e series motor, it's only if it's a dohc 4L you'l have alot of trouble with.

Yeah handling the suck bawlz at but looks it really depends how you do em. I've owned a merc, jag, XD, XE, EB and people have always liked me cortina better.

If anyone knows of some good cortinas for sale, let me know and post here cause Im helpin me mate look, hes actually getting one looked at in Melbourne, if its any good we'll fly down and drive er home. A decent corty seems hard to come by (hes looking for TE or TF specifically) especially up here.

Cortina's are starting to go up in price a bit so finding a clean one with minimum rust you'l need to set a budget of at least 3k+

I know a few mates who have all bought TE-TF 6cyls in the last 12 months, all for under $1500, and they're all in decent condition.

Decent condition for a cortina means only 2k away from being road worthy.
Spend the extra buck and get something GOOD.

TE is better because they have steel bumpers bars! and don't have the fugly point on the bonnet and square tail lights.
In standard form a TE weighs about 1206kg with a cast iron head and a 67kg 3spd auto.

Replace that with a t5 or a single rail and a alloy head and you'l be close to 1150kg.

Yes they're much harder to find than a falcon and spare parts are a bitch to find for them but that's what makes them rare and what makes them stand out.

It was a Ghia too - only cost me $500

They look so much better than TFs, and IME they arent very hard to come across, just manual 4.1s might be.

Sounds like my old man when I was buying a cortina told me I was wasting my time modding a 6cyl then I blew im away in his worked 351 clevo in my n/a 250 crossflow, he cracked the shits and went home without saying goodbye and never bagged my car after that.

Haha good work mate, yeah nah I think its because my mate 'is' a modnut and as you said 'Yes they're much harder to find than a falcon and spare parts are a bitch to find for them'. I actually gave his old man a run the other day off a set of lights, he was in a v8 cruiser with 22's and we were neck and neck.. he did have the stomp but i had the gain.. but there was nothing in it . I'll give him another run when I get a shift kit and upgrade the air intake.. see if it makes any difference. But back to cortina's

get a TE and put as Granada front lip on it, they look great, also look at what they are doing in the UK, 2.9L Cosworth V6 motors
