ROGUE motorcycle riders could star in Victoria Police's first online video campaign targeting the dangerous hoons.

Police have told the Lilydale & Yarra Valley Leader that there are plans to release footage on YouTube of successful Yarra Ranges police traffic operations.

The videos will capture highlights from their most recent campaign, Operation Surreptitious, that used military-style methods including combat fatigues, hiding in bushes, high-powered laser devices and binoculars to catch lawless motorcycle riders on the Black Spur road.

Yarra Ranges Insp Andrew Humberstone said it would be the first time that Victoria Police had used YouTube to fight crime.

“The police are looking at several opportunities to educate the public and create awareness of behaviours like dangerous driving,” Insp Humberstone said.

Victoria Police media officer Natalie Webster said police were only in the preliminary stages of reviewing how and when the TMU footage might possibly be used.

I guess a Black Spur cruise is out of the question now :P

I wonder what the point of the footage being uploaded onto youtube is (despite Insp Humberstone's quote)? Will knts on youtube searching for black spur hoons (& wanting sick dorifto/touge/motoGP footage) be shocked and discouraged upon finding police surveillance footage? Why would people wanting to watch said sick dorifto/touge/motoGP youtube footage decide to click on the Police surveillance footage instead?

hey, if there's footage of what they're doing wrong, it's just another skid video then. people will watch it and not be educated, but entertained....kinda pointless i'd think.

I'm predicting the footage would be boring though, like getting caught cutting a corner, or tailgating someone...

The police force is such a joke. Instead of focusing on underworld crime, drugs and weapons. They focus on kids having fun. They need to get a life and open more places for hoons to "hoon". I have to drive 2hrs to race someone legaly. Why do that when I can go my mate at the local lights? I do not street race or condone street racing btw ;)

Yes that's an awesome idea. Let's get the TMU to do the drug squad, armed offenders (or whatever they're called these days) and Purana Taskforce's jobs. Are you fking serious? Last time I checked it's the police's job to enforce the law, and there's shit tins more laws than don't sell drugs, don't stab ****, don't point firearms at bank tellers and don't watch The Godfather and decide to model your life on it. Last I checked it's not their job to open burnout pads either.

I can't believe people sook that police are enforcing the law. It's their job FFS. Yet you'd be the first **** sooking to them when someone knocked off your shit.

That's why people invented CCTV and Alarms. All thou alarms "protect" you premises as such but dont stop people from taking things, if there's a massive screaming alarm waking the whole street or making a noise that can be herd a block away, usually the shit kents do a runner. It would be safe to say 9 out of 10 robberies ain't organised by the underworld/organised crime gangs, and just some junkie/kid with a parents who don't care/bad upbringing tryin to steal shit to pay for some more drugs, or support their parents drug habbits, or buy some lollies at the local corner store.

Speaking from personal experiance, living in Healesville for 10yrs and driving over the Black Spur for near on 20yrs, the worst offenders for speeding, hooning and general stupidness whilst travelling on this road are the COPPERS themselves.
They do a couple of passes over the Black Spur whilst out on a rider/driver training exercise with their police instructors and all of a sudden think they know the road like the back of their hand.
They are or were back then the cause of anumber of accidents every year, unfortunately some were fatalities.

The Black spur speed limit is stil 100kph, and i can only think of 2 main places within the black spur to hit 100+ other than those to places its hard to acutally hit the 100kph unless you are on a bike or a ferrari/supercar.

i think its good their cracking down on the motorbike's, back on my L's i had 3 of them come off(3 seperate incedents) right in front of me on a corner, it wasint easy for a learner with to pull up a 2.5tonne navara around a corner but luckily i was only going slow.

And about the whole cops r kunts things, my theory is HOW YOU SPEAK TO THEM IS HOW THEY SPEAK TO YOU!
ive been pulled over several times in the EF and everytime ive just been nice to them and they are polite back.
and secure your own shit, shed+padlock+spotlights with sensors are enough to scare any thief off.

You said they did **** all to get your shit back, hence you wanted them to protect your shit by putting in more effort to get your shit back. Look at the statistics for crime, are they ment to launch a nation wide scale ever time someone knocks someone else's shit off? Get real, im sure they did the best they could, took witness statements, fingerprints etc if there not on file they cant catch people.

This is where it comes into putting a bit off effort into protecting your own shit maybe would of stopped people from stealing your shit in the first place.

Stereo typing cops and shit, saying they should do better things like fight more crime and calling them all wankers cause they couldnt find your shit is fucking stupid. I bet you abuse the poor mother of 3 children on the other end of the phone of your phone company when they bill you too much etc? stereo typing her because the company billed you too much. But it wasn't her decision to bill you more was it? Like it wasnt the TMU's fault pulling you over for an RBT that people who work for the same "Force/Business" as him/her couldn't catch the people who stole your shit.

So back to the idea of the thread :?

Me and a mate about a year ago now i think? were into graffiti so were i live (country town bushland sticks) out in the bush a bit there are these old diesel tanks which you can climb into, probably 4 metres deep, so we decided to film ourselves doing graffiti in there, wearing masks and all as it was planned to go on youtube...

The other day they done a report on channel 7 news about graffiti and vandalism and were showing quick roughly 6 second shots or so of some clips off youtube, and ours was on there!

Shit i was stoked, kinda worried if there going into it more and i may get caught, but there is no evidence of me doing it anywhere else and if anyone even see's the stuff we did in those diesel tanks i will be very surprised.

Anyway back to the point, Exactly what Kester said, how you talk to them is how they talk to you

Why should I have to protect my own shit????? The police should be catching these people. The guy that robbed me obviously wasn't the first time he did something like that because he robbed everyone in the neighbor hood. All I need to do is look at your sig to see what kind of an intelligent being you are  .....

There you are saying again the Police have to protect your shit. Have you seen how many police there are to civilians? Your a fucking retard. You insult my intelligence yet you do put any effort into protecting your own stuff, let me guess you leave your doors unlocked? Mate wake up to current society to current world conditions, you would be a fucking tool if you think the police should be there to protect your shit when ever your not with it. Also maybe the guy was a semi pro crim, proberly wanted drug money hence doing the whole street. And maybe he was just smart enough, smarter than you obviously to wear gloves.

Yeah I agree iliov. We should make the police force focus on finding the druggies who steal a two year old stereo, a GMC cordless drill, and a Playstation 2. Let's face it, they have enough resources to spend hundreds of hours tracking down some stolen equipment that you would get back from home and contents insurance. I'd be happy to have my taxes being spent on police resources like this instead of being undercover doing real work that we never see or trying to get dead beats who do burnouts and break 28-spline axles like blcked off our roads.

I don't think people who break axles should be put on the same list as people who steal shit from someone's house. "Hooning" should be the lowest priority of the Police but it isn't because of the cash being made from trying to supress it. And some cops have NFI, I had a cop come to our school and he said that a VB-VL commodore would be safer in a crash compared to the XA-XF falcon's because of "crumple zones". He then went on to recommend a VOLVO to the rest of the class for a first car.

FFS. There are different jobs in the police force. TMU don't follow up your VCR getting pinched. GD don't go around giving out defects, unless you ask for it. The blokes in the dog squad don't fly the helicopter on their days off. It's the most deadshit argument that cops should be chasing other crimes rather than traffic offences. Does it even matter? It's the law anyway, you get busted breaking it tough shit.

Possibly instead of spending an entire 8 hour shift sitting in the back of a bloody speed camera car, they could spend that 8 hours doing laps of random suburbs, maybe in areas that are particularly bad for theft or violent crimes? Or booking people for actual dangerous shit like tailgating and failing to give way?

It would get the public more on their side because they would have a visible presence on the road and in the suburbs, and it would make people actually FEEL safer, instead of the fucking government cramming this BULLSHIT "speed kills" FUCKING LIE BULLSHIT CRAP down our throats YEAR AFTER FUCKING YEAR while whinging about the continuing death toll. Wankers.

P.S. I've broken a 28 spline axle, and twisted another :P I'm not 100% dead-beat though, some parts are missing :D

Fighting? If you think this is fighting, what's the Frost thread, a nuclear holocaust?

"Hooning" should be the lowest priority of the Police but it isn't because of the cash being made from trying to supress it. And some cops have NFI, I had a cop come to our school and he said that a VB-VL commodore would be safer in a crash compared to the XA-XF falcon's because of "crumple zones". He then went on to recommend a VOLVO to the rest of the class for a first car.

It's a little bit over your head, isn't it? Fortunately five point slow pointed out what reads between the lines....

I agree with iliov, in a general sense.
Some of you took it a bit too literally I think...

To word it it a bit better...
Maaaaybe the money spent on paying an officer to sit there uploading videos to youtube could be better spent.
Like I dunno, maybe instead of sitting in their office at a computer looking at VL2DY4 dose vids between uploading surveillance footage of guys on litre bikes popping monos, they could be out making a presence on the streets.

Speaking from my own experience, I am much less likely to commit an illegal act if there is a police officer standing/driving next to me. I would say this is the same for 99.9% of the population (.1% are blind).
So, instead of the dubious effects that youtube videos may have, they could put that one officer out on the street and have a guaranteed effect.

That goes further too.
Instead of buying camoflauge, surveillance equipment, and paying god knows how many officers to hide in bushes on the black spur, they could have had 2 cops driving around there?
Again, people much less likely to do dumb sht if they see a cop looking at them.

He smashed a window and he had fingerprints yet they haven't found him. Pathetic.

iliov, just coz the cops have fingerprints does NOT give them info to the whereabouts of a crim.
Fingerprints are not a GPS tracking system. Prints are taken so the cops know who did it, so that when they get caught, all the list of previous offences get stacked up agaisnt them. Give the Police a break, they have better things to do then search for your missing ipod.

Fair to a point Steady. Having a couple of fat, slow, midget cops sitting on their arse uploading some footage to Youtube is just an alternate way of utilising another channel of marketing that reaches a completely different demographic. The Internet is effing huge and so is the amount of kiddie fiddlers and car enthusiastic forum browsers using it. It's just another type of presence, albeit a digital one, that is saying the police are watching not only from the bush on the Black Spur, but also on the most commonly used channels floating around on the Internet. It will show them doing a job and attempt to let people know that these things are going on - whether we see them in real life or not.

To be fair Black Spur would be a friggin hard road to police. What does the copper in the SS do when he comes past a temporary Australian going the other way at 140 kph on his bike? By the time he's found somewhere to turn around the bike is long gone. The way I understand it during the latest blitz one copper would hide with the radar then radio his mate further down the road when he saw someone speeding. That's about the only way you could really do it. This youtube shit seems like the usual crap from higher up.

It just shits me when people start hanging crap on coppers for no good reason. I'd like to see half the whingers sign up for a job where every shift could very well see you end up dead. The bloke on the street has nothing to do with how the force is run, he's just doing what he's told. If his sergeant wants him to sit at the bottom of a hill with a radar he has to do it. No doubt some of them think it's just as stupid as we do.

At the end of the day though, when you break the law you run the risk of getting caught for it. I never understood why people piss and moan when they get caught doing something illegal. Yes it may be a stupid law, but it's still the law.
