New Guy with EF XR8

Postby jay_c2617 » November 1st, 2008, 5:02 pm

Hey everyone, been browsing a few weeks and thought I should introduce myself
my names Jay and I'm currently driving an EF XR8 which was bought for me after the
misses wrote off my NL concorde

so far the mods include the interior and stereo from the fairlane (back seats a f**k around :x )
engines still stock except the exhaust system (no idea what kind, nothing too great tho)
I've never owned a v8 so i have no idea where to start.
its got 17" tickford rims on it (didn't know they came in 17's so im guessing they're copies)
they guy i bought it off got it from Dick Johnson racing and reckoned they were genuine.

well anyway enough babbling on, I'd love to come along to some cruises in the s/e queensland area
sometime to see some of the sweet cars you guys have, but for now heres some pics of mine

Cheers for the reply's guys, for the moment I gotta do the back power window conversion, then the nl cluster, trip computer and climate control, which i must admit i'm not looking forward to doing as it sounds like a pain in the ass. then finish the stereo with some good splits and an amp to run them the JL sub from my old car does a good job still so it can stay.

But in a few months i'd like to get stuck into the engine but really don't know where to start with the 8's.
From what i've read on the forums a stroker kit or supercharger sounds like the way to go but i'm undecided on what would give better results for the money i'll spend on it, any ideas or advice would be apreciated

for a start the intake and the heads choke them like all buggery.
idealy better heads and intake such as those on the au's would make a big difference.

how much do you want to spend on performance?

heads definerlty a good idea

diff gears are agood cheap upgrade aswell, extractors and a 2.5 exhaust with a high flow cat also good place to start.

havent really priced anything up but i plan to get together a good 4-6k to put into the engine in one go in the near future depending how work goes, diff gears sound good might look into that, what ratio would be best you reckon? cheers

its an auto yeah?

i have 3.9s in my 4 speed auto 5 litre and i think its perfect for a daily driven car, sits around 2300 rmp in 4th at 100 kms'

commando has 4.11's in his eb ghia, slightly more revs but its a weekend car.

4.11s do give you a bit more off the line then 3.9s.

3.7 or 3.9's are always good
good balance i think
iv got 4.11's in the xr8 and its great but if i had to replace them i think id go 3.9

cheers guys, think i might go for the diff gears, might seem stupid but where would you recommend sourcing the 3.9 from and what do they usually go for?
