The Charger sounds awesome, must be pretty rare since it's got an original 340 (Fireball?).
Be sure to read up a lot through our tech sections and build sections to learn and be inspired by many of the cars on here

Shaving the head (or block even) a fair bit shortens the distance b/w the cam & the crank, so much so that the tensioner can't do its job properly and the timing chain has slack in it, thus flogging out the guides, farking the chain, & possibly resulting in catastrophic failure. I'll bet if you shaved a fair bit off your head you'd suffer from this problem too regardless of what cam (billet, regrind, stock, etc) you've got in your head.
What was your cousin's setup?

Commando wrote:Regarding your 62thou(!) setup: Standard timing chain length? Standard tensioner? Etc etc?
Surely the tensioner only really needs to tension one side, as the other side is being pulled tight from the crank? Kind of like riding a bike, pushing down hard on the pedals will cause the top side of the chain's route to tighten and the bottom side to slacken. Although I suppose under deceleration the side which is normally under tension could slacken...
Do you know what attempts were made by the mechanics who tried to fix your cousin's issues? Different chain (if possible), modifying the tensioner, etc?
I'm not trying to defend JMM & I hope I'm not coming across that way with my posts (personally I'd get something cheaper too like a 977b or 1673), I just wanted to try & get to the bottom of this whole "dodgy" claim. Could custom/aftermarket lash adjusters be sourced for a harsh cam like the DEV5 or would you be limited to 11ty shims?

I think the mechanics just re-replaced all the timing gear, played with the tensioner couldnt figure it out. We put my old cam in it, problem went away.
