The Automotive Product Review Thread <tm>

Postby Commando » December 11th, 2008, 9:30 am

Since moving out to Stradbroke, I've had several hairy moments on the road with suicide roos wanting to stove in my front end. Every morning & every dusk there's one particular area where the paddocks are FILLED with roos (I'm talking 100+ roos) which are grazing right up to the roadside fence.

Anyway some of my coworkers who also travel on that road told me about cheap little "Shoo Roo" whistles that you stick onto your front bumper, which scare off the roos. Long story short, they don't work, I flew past the paddocks last night with these Shoo Roo whistles attached and the roos didn't even look up at me.

So without further adieu, I figured I'd create a thread with a template where people who have brought products/accessories for their cars (brands of tyres, or a certain car wax, etc etc) can state what they bought, where they bought it from, how much it was, and whether it was any good or not.

PRODUCT/ACCESSORY: Sonic Animal Guards
PRICE: $9.95
PURCHASED AT: Supercheap Auto
RATING: 0/10
BRIEF REVIEW: This product is meant to frighten off kangaroos, claiming to work up to distances of 2kms away. It doesn't work, don't bother buying this product.

PRODUCT/ACCESSORY: Maverick/Patrol TB42 Starter Motor from the "Starter Centre" on ebay.
PRICE: $250
PURCHASED AT: Ebay
RATING: 0/10
BRIEF REVIEW: Bought this starter motor last year when mine was playing up. Mine came good then finally died 8 months later so I fitted the new ebay "starter centre" starter motor. It lasted 200kms and in that time always made grinding noises and would struggle to start the car. One day something was rattling so I pulled the starter out and it came out of my car as pictured below.

PRODUCT/ACCESSORY: Cisco IP Phone 7942
PRICE: $450
PURCHASED AT: Any good IT vendor
RATING: 10/10
BRIEF REVIEW: I can choose the same ring-tone that the analysts at CTU use in the TV show 24. While I'm working I can load Google Earth on my desktop and pretend that I have live satellite surveillance. When the phone rings I pretend I'm talking to Jack Bauer. My work colleagues are baffled every time.
