Bring back these brake upgrades for E series Falcon

Postby mickyyyy » December 11th, 2008, 7:02 pm

Hi All,

I came across these threads on fordmods of brake upgrades for E series falcon and its a shame that they didnt make it to the market, and i wanted to start this thread to show the people involved in these kits to bring them back.

Im sure many of us are interested especially at the prices quoted $1000.00 - 1500.00 in the threads as there hundreds of dollars cheaper than other kits out there.

curious as to why you need a 2nd company producing kits betwen $1000 and $1500, i know a few people have had issues with their initial kits bit it seems resolved now.

or are you specifically after E-Series offset.

UPC kit is not right when it comes ot Offset/wheel track

His kit comes 28mm out when AU onwards offset is actually 35mm. I know this as i had AU onwards 19's on my EF XR8 and had 35mm hub adaptors & wheel track was extactly the same wven after 19's with 35mm hub adaptors.

No pics on the first page of those threads, not scrolling any further. Hub adapters are always shit, 35mm ones are ridiculously shit.

i dont care if the wheel track isnt spot on... as long as i can put AU offset wheels on with no issues whatsoever. i was told by the guy who makes the brake kit that my twenties would fit on or i would get my money back

Why carnt we get a cheap upgrade like below onto our E series in standard offset or AU onwards series offset?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FALCON-AU-BA-BF- ... 240%3A1318

This is what im talking about guys, a chrap upgrade which will do a good job.

They should use the same parts in the above ebay link and make them suit a E series falcon with either standard or E series offset.

under $1500.00 for 300mm or 322mm twin spot caliper link the link above would be awsome upgrade.

Alot more E series turbo's are coming up and in my oppinion once your car reaches 280rwhp u will need a brake upgrade. So why not support a product that will be good and at a fair price???

Common guys i know alot of you will turbo ur E series and u will eventually need a brake upgrade. So show your interest and vote on the poll.

There is no question for your poll and equally no point. Internet polls and to a greater extent forums polls don't mean sh|t.

Why do you need a brake upgrade? I can still pinch the tyres if i want at high speed. Big brake upgrade is either for 1. Looks or 2. Circuit work.

Slotted DBAs with currently unknown pads here. They work surprisingly well.

I would be interested in big brakes if I wanted badly enough to run GTR offset Koya Drift-Teks all round. But that is untested with the big brakes that change the offset. It is very tempting to try though. Cost is another prohibiting factor.

I think slotted rotors with ultimate pads and the rest of the braking system in good condition will pull up an e-series quickly enough. Big brakes aren't going save you if you're doing dumb shit or simply going way too fast on the street. On the other hand if you're chasing faster and faster circuit times then bigger brakes are a good idea.

Re: Bring back these brake upgrades for E series Falcon

Postby mickyyyy » January 8th, 2009, 6:53 am

Well when i had my EF XR8 with a 400hp 347 stroker i had DBA slotted rotors all round with EBC red stuff pads and it pulled up alright. I now have on my daily DBA slotted rotors with ultimate pads all round on my EL GLi and they also pull up alright. I can say that by doing that basic upgrade gave me 10-15% better braking.

Now my cureent setup on my EL GLi set me back $830.00 for the following parts

-Standard DBA slotted front rotors
-Standard DBA slotted rear rotors
-Braided brakes lines Front and Rear
-Ultimate pads Front and Rear

Plus friehgt as they were sent from melb to sydney

Now if they can provide a front brake kit as in the above ebay link which will provide 30-40% better braking for under $1500.00, why not???

Dont forget thats just doing the front, then do the rear i would say ur braking will be improved as a whole system by 50%.

There are more E series falcons coming up with turbo & supercharger conversion and once ur hitting 280rwhp and u do some spirited driving then u will need a upgrade. I know i would rather have a upgrade and have the piece of mind that i have a decent set of brakes to pull me up if i have an emergency.

So considering price factor and percentage of better braking power i personally think it would be a great set on gear to have on the market for us all.

There is more to a capable braking system... eg fade, bite, hot and cold differences, how quickly they dissipate heat, feel... etc

They will all 'lock up' at any speed, even stock brakes if you don't have ABS. Being able to lock the wheels up isn't going to help you stop the car quickly.

A good set of big brakes (rotors and calipers) will pull you up quicker from high speed, let you brake later into corners and cool quicker before you need to use them again at the next corner. A good set of pads will work adequately at colder temps on the street and also step it up and work even better at high temps on the track, they will have less to no fade as they heat up too.

Poor or stock brakes will have no feel, fade and shudder as they heat up when pushed hard, rotors will overheat and crack, won't cool enough between brake application... etc so on and so forth.

Money is well spent on good brakes but honestly what average E-Series owner is going to put thousands of dollars worth of brakes onto their car? Certainly not enough people for there to be any incentive for a manufacturer to put real time and money into developing or even producing an upgrade kit. They might sell a couple of dozen kits a year even the current kits. There is no incentive to make them better or cheaper, it is what it is and they are what they are.

PS does anyone know how much the kits are that the saloon cars use? The amount of $3500 comes to mind but I'm not sure. Cebco makes them don't they?

Cebco has been bought out by Race brakes Sydney, so if you want that gear you will have to contact them.

There worth $2200.00 and are a great brake upgrade kit.

What im trying to point out is after i have spent $830.00 for parts to upgrade my whole braking system and got between 15-20% better braking, if there was a kit that had 40-50% better braking power and made my pedal feel firmer and better all round for under $1500.00, i would definatly get it especially if my car was turbo/supercharged or stroked and making over 280rwhp.

Ive had a 400hp 347 windsor in my EF XR8 and slotted rotors and good pads with braided lines made a decent difference but wasent good enough to make the car safe enough with that sort of hp.

Oh really? Do you know if they are going to keep operating as Cebco, or are they going to become another arm of Race Brakes in Melbourne?

Bigger brakes would be nice. Brake fade mid Classic Rally is not cool. Apparently my rotors were glowing blue at lunch after the 3 motorplex stages in a row (the third one being where the brake fade happened).

Because you want to have the option to lock them more than once

I don't know if you have hills or mountains in Perth (maybe they haven't been invented yet :P) But e-series brakes die in the ass after a few corners if you go over 7/10ths. They're alright for driving normally and motorkana type stuff, where you really only get to 100 once at most, but mine fade even stopping at the end of the straights at powercruise. Pad fade too, they don't boil the fluid.
