slo_sprint's new daily

Postby slo_sprint » August 17th, 2008, 4:16 pm

Since the Sprint is basically doomed to be a bit of a pig, unreliable and spend lots of time off the road i decided to buy something tidy to drive when i can't drive the sprint.

The only real criteria i had was that it had to be manual, nice/fun to drive, reasonably quick and didn't need money spent on it to make me happy with it. Initially i wanted a JZX100 Toyota chaser but manuals are hard to find and a bit on the expensive side and aristos are only auto, i didn't really want a Ford since i've only ever had them and wanted a bit of a change so i ended up buying this.

Its an R33 Skyline GTS-25T (obviously) with the usual bits like coil overs, cooler, turbo back exhaust, tune. I pretty much loved it from the first time i saw it so to say im happy with it would be an understatement, Its pretty quick considering its still fairly stock and its just awsome to drive.

I don't have any plans for it except for tint, I just want to drive it so i never have to drive a diesel Ford Courier again except for work!

I never used to be a fan of them but they eventually grew on me, silvias aren't bad either awsome fun to drive but i just can't dig SR's.

I wouldn't say the fuel consumption is great but its not too bad its currently using around 16L/100km.

Looks pretty good. Back in the day I looked at trading the EL on either a 32 or 33 GTST. Id probably still look at getting something like that one day.

Good plan to just drive this car man, raising it up in the rear a bit and slapping some new tint on is a good idea. I took some pics of it too while we were out at the track yesterday.

Very nice pick up there mate, pretty tidy daily if you ask me! :) What wheels does it have on it? They look very similar to the wheels on the new R35 GTR.

My bad they are actually 18's, well spotted! I couldn't believe how well the wheels suit the car, they look like they should have been their from factory.

Its probably about time for an update, a little bit has changed on the car.

Its now sitting a little higher than it used to so now i can drive on the motorway without bottoming the exhaust out and showering cars behind me with sparks, its now got 20% (i think) tint all around which has to be one of the best decisions ever its heaps cooler inside the car with alot less glare and it looks mint!

It also scored new brakes DBA4000 GTR 327mm rotors up front with caliper adapters and DBA4000 standard size on the back with green stuff pads all round, the thing nearly sends you through the windscreen if you dare hit the brake pedal hard enough which is kinda bad in a way since im probably never going to be able to deal with standard e series falcon brakes ever again :P

Other than that its got clear side repeaters, I've just trashed my 3rd set of rear tyres  , boost is now at 13psi and loving it and when i can get a rear wheel alignment done i'll put the HICAS (4 wheel steering) lock bar in.

I took the pics with my phone thinking the camera was better than it actually is, you get that.

It has its moments :P

It also got a bit of love in the form of new diff and gearbox oils today, shifts heaps better no more whine. Diff also seems to lock a bit better it used to be a bit hit and miss as to whether it peg legs or not but it hasn't pegged once and believe me i have been trying.

At this point i will wack adjustable camber rods in the back, the lock bar and change the front coilover inserts so i can just leave it and concentrate on getting the sprint running.

Ha good on fuel, the usage has since gone up to about 20.5L per hundred its pretty wild. However my oxy sensor is dead and has been for some time it only ever reads 0 - 0.250v so its constantly dumping in excess fuel. I will replace it one day.

My driving doesn't help either i can't imagine.

Thanks OED, mucho appreciato :D

exactly the same ~20L/100, even at a steady cruise the oxy sensor isn't reading and therefore dumping way too much fuel in.

fark, thats horrific fuel non-economy... lately on teh highway i've been getting mine to the low 9's, high 8L/100k's. I have a fark off exhaust leak, and a suspect O2 sensor. around town, mines fuct though. 16-7L/100k's. :(

still love your car though! its secksy times on wheels.

Yeah its not exactly great but i'll replace the oxy sensor while i've got some time off as i'm confident thats the problem.

Thats pretty awsome economy though, im guessing that even with the diff gears revs would be pretty low on the motorway in 6th gear yeah (i hate you and your gearbox :P ) sucks about round town though, can't win 'em all i guess

Yeah i farken love it too i couldn't bring myself to change anything externally, that being said theres still some things that have to be done though in reguards to paint and the front bar but it'll happen later on.

LOL! im starting to think you pretty much live in the engine room of that ship in ya free time kent.

I took the pics on my most favorite of roads, the infamous WMC! just after the big dip outside karremans. its a mint spot when ya get back we will get some of the esky there. I've also got some farken mint shots of the skyline that were taken out in the industrial estate near coopers plains by an extremely talented photographer so i'll post em up whenever i get them.

I'll txt ya a pic of the carnage, way to embarrasing and i dont have a transfer cable atm :?

(For those that don't know i managed to scrape from the drivers wheel arch to the door reversing into my shed, was a fair effort but its all fixed  )

Haha pretty much. They won't let me take photo's of the engine room though, kents...

Yeah I'm keen for a WMC run, cause I'm getting the tune done as soon as I get back, and an effing wheel alignment too  Then I'll join you in some tyre wasting fun.

Good job, it would be fairly farken mint to see it all in action. Reckon you could "borrow" a turbo off the ship for me, hell even a turbo of one of the gensets would suffice!

Done deal, hurry up and get back farken. Tyres deserve to die, the more tread they have the more they mock you!!!!!

LOL@ final comment :P

You could try resetting the ECU )disconnecting for 10 mins or whatever) and then unplugging the 02 sensor before starting it up, and just leaving it unplugged - I'm pretty sure that the computer will realise that there is no 02 sensor fitted and ignore it - I think it looks for a certain number of 'switches' (ie, 100mv-900mv-100mv-900mv) before changing the fuel trims. No switches = no incorrect fuel table changes.

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.
