EA advice

Postby hessam69 » September 13th, 2007, 5:43 pm

Hello, I'd like to get some advice about an EA wagon that I have seen, it belongs to a mechanic I know he is trying to get rid of it, he said I could take it, it is an 89 CFI wagon, 6 seater, (9 seater if you count the 3rd row seats) not registered, has 268000 on the clock, some rust around the windscreen and under the back windows, it is not running, due to a huge crack in the transmission which he said the driver ran over something. It is missing a battery, plug leads and battery terminals and obviously a good transmission. I am not sure about the mechanical condition.

Do you think it would be worth my time and money taking it and getting it fixed (I can do all labour myself) or should I get it scrapped.. I don't want to spend large amounts of money on it when I won't be able to get it back. What do you think would be the best way?

About 6 months ago I bought an EA transmission for $50, can I still pick one up now for that or was I lucky? If anyone has any ideas I would be greatful I just can't make up a decision at the moment

Thank you

if it was worth doing up the machanic would have already fixed it and flogged it off for a profit.

depends if you can get cheap parts and can save on labour by doing a hole lot of the work yourself.
are you planning on modding it right out? or just a driveable daily?

Well, it would only be worth $100-200 when it is fixed and running, so I'm thinking of selling it for scrap
