Pete and I are no doubt going. Will meet anyone else going @ Bp/maccas on Thompson Road like last week. Will be meeting up and leaving earlier this week to get a park because no doubt there will be even more attending this week.

i think the locals may not want drags at sandown. the houses are not far away from the track. but to a point if you moved there knowing there was a racetrack you kind of asked for it.

i went last night as well as bethany, pete, joe and mark.
Basically it wont be held at the tooradin airstrip anymore because the owner had a disagreement with the guy organising all of this . so we ended up at cranbourne autobarn where basically it was the same stuff said as last week , apparently there is a petition going around to try and get some support for a strip out this way , i think mark was going to try get his hands on a copy for the sandown display on the weekend . there was also some talk of making an official club and there was talk about presidents and how they would go about it ......that was pretty much it :)
there were a couple of highlights over the night , when we were going from tooradin to cranbourne there was a vl over a ditch ( he must of been going that fast when he lost it that the car didnt go down the ditch in the center median strip but reached the other side of the ditch , so it was like suspended over a massive drop :P

drove an AU XR6 went pretty hard for what it was :P maybe next time ill actually get a race

Spot on Aleisha. Thats pretty much exactly what went on. The guy organising it seems real nice and just wants to get something going for us out this way.
The organiser is putting together licenses to race (permit things Lol) which will be $88 a year and can be used at any track! Apparently there will be a get together/bbq to discuss it all further soon.

From what i can gather, they intend on setting up a CAMS approved club, the $88 covers a cams licence so you can go to tracks etc.

But isnt the purpose of this to get a new strip built in the South-East?
Fair enough if the CAMS liscence will allow people to use Sandown but I think the problem is mainly Sandown not allowing drags to be held at all isnt it?
I hope they work something out, sounds like a good bloke, going to all this trouble to benefit car enthusiasts.

they do want to setup Tooradin as a drag strip, but it all seems wrapped up with all these other plans.
Sandown has been mentioned numerous times as well.

the impression i got was that they were going to look into forming a club and hiring venues such as sandown, raise the money and the amount of members of the club and get some sponsers etc get the club established and then hopefully by doin that they get more support from goverment etc

alesia - are you talking about mark's au xr6. it drive nicely doesnt it???!!!!

about people hearing that it has been canned from the week before from the burnouts etc. i think alot of what may be said at the moment is he says she says about a few things. i say only time will tell the outcome and if it goes ahead good luck to them and if not there are still other places to go.

Interesting results - I honestly doubt Sandown will be officillay a regular venue for the drags. As it has been mentioned, residential properties back on to the premises - I think that is one of the limiting factors - been raised in the past from memory.

There is soooooooo much open space down Cranbourne way (that housing developers haven't got on to yet!)...so gay (yes GAY!) why something can't be built down there or surrounding suburbs I don't know ! I could see it as being something lucrative - Dandenong is the biggest hoon capital in Metro Melbourne...it'd make a killing...look how much Calder makes from their Fri nights !

Either which way, something will have to be done :P

Too True, I just don't see Tooradin or Sandown will become anything more then what they are atm, something just has to be built, he mentioned Philip Island could also be set up like how Winton Race Tracks have there fun days, which would be awsome something closer to the city

Anywhere beyond Dandenong and Cranbourne area is a good option of where to build a track, and not some small 1/4 mile with no breaking room, like dcstraight said, if there was an Eastside Calder style track, they'd make a killing

Steve how do you know what calder make ? do you know how much they would be paying in public liability insurance ? The $7.50 Jack Daniels probably help them. lol

Dandenong is full of scum who wouldn't pay a cent to race their cars legally(no offence to anyone who lives there), and the problem with Frankston is people from Dandenong move there. lol

Go to Calder or Heathcote, or get over it.

Dandenong is full of scum who wouldn't pay a cent to race their cars legally(no offence to anyone who lives there), and the problem with Frankston is people from Dandenong move there. lol

Go to Calder or Heathcote, or get over it.

Yes Damo - aware of the PLI factor...just looking at the situation from a supply and demand point of view. Fact is there are more and more cars on our roads nowadays - many spawning from young drivers having more disposable income and cheaper cars through technology advacnes and the like. The result is what we have at the moment no ? That is more 'hoons' on the roads - ie Noble Park incident etc.

I'm not frustrated at the fact that we already have 2 drag strips in this lovely state of ours...I am frustrated at the distancing between the law and car enthusiasts (who also get labelled hoons) with the current attitude and beliefs of the general public, politicians and state legislation / policy makers.

Damo - as much as I'd like to second your Dandenong scumbag stereotype - fact is there are in excess of 20 + dynos in and around the greater city of Dandenong and at least twice as many performance workshops - I'd say there is a bit of money going around - give them a good deal at a local track and it would be a good start. PLI is indeed an up-hill battle - but enough money seems to be able to 'buy' nearly anything these days *sigh*.

Well put Steve and I agree 100%. People like our selves take the time out to make the trip to either Heathcote or Calder, we are involved in car clubs etc etc etc.. Anyone who is genuinely interested in running there car down the 1/4 mile will head to the current appropriate venues. More drag strips will not eliminate hoons.

I'm all for the idea of a drag strip out east, but I just can't see it happening.

There's an interesting story in the Cranbourne local paper about this, apparently the text message was leaked out and over 700 people rocked up. It was only supposed to be a private meeting of around 20 or so people! (Hence why the owner of the airfield was pissed off). If I cbf, and anybody cares I'll scan it in...

Yeah well they did say at the meeting they got way more people then they expected. From what I understood, Tooradin dont want anything to do with the guy who was organising a drag strip and he said if we want one there we have to go speak to them coz its no longer happening through him.
Cranbourne drag strip would be awesum, 15mins from home!!

So maybe it's just a matter of seeing what is exactly required and if anyone is willing (and more importantly able) to kick-start some kind of organised syndicate. We all know there is more than enough support out there - just a hella lot of red tape !
