ok, reading through previous posts and replies etc. and am now confused.. :?

my current EA engine sounds like a giant fan..
i assume the AU engine will fix that and im pretty sure id get better fuel economy out of it..
will give me noticeably more power?

sorry again

The "giant fan" noise will be the giant fan at the front of the engine, known as a clutchfan. You can convert to thermofans which run off a thermostat (as opposed to the clutchfan running off a viscous hub pulley), they're much quieter. I'm sure there's a tutorial or something on here, I'd find it myself but I really cbf. You'll learn to love the search function :P

Regarding the AU conversion... To answer simply: Yes to better fuel economy & more power with the AU engine.

Sorry Dave i know you posted most of this but i cbf editing :P

because the EF-FG motors use what is known as the serpentine belt setup (Single Belt) they will not have the facilities for a clutch fan, you will need to install thermofans, that's what replaces the noisy clutch fan. You can install the 3 belt setup (EA-ED) on an AU motor but then you would have a clutch fan unless you take it off and install thermofans.

Most AU engines come with the serpentine stuff on them anyway, just gotta get thermofans and the relay stuff for it. How you would want to install the thermofans again is another question, using the Davies Craig thermatic switch or installing an EL ECU and adding the wires so they run off the ECU.
