Other people driving your E-Series

Postby Bipolar » September 18th, 2007, 9:10 am

Curious to know how many people don't mind others driving their car. My bro asked my last night if he could hire my car for today, and I told him no straight up. He didn't argue cuz he expected me to say that, but I feel a bit bad cuz I know he'd do it for me. But I hate the thought of other people driving my EL.

in general NO WAY...

exceptions...
I have allowed Rollin and BI6TIM to use my car before. They are trusted!!! I would also trust Lukey039 and Bipolar as well. (Death would be the only option if anything happened though. :P)

My little brother in-law always asks, but I wouldnt let him drive one of my Matchbox cars. He drives any car into the ground!!! My other brother in-law I would let push a shopping trolley...

Came back from overseas recently, and I asked my in-laws not to let anyone use my wifes barina. (I know, its a barina, but its the daily driver). Well, then young one drove it all the time. 2nd to 3rd shifts are screwed. The front left wheel (the actual rim) has a flat spot, and the tyres stuffed.

NO WAY IN HELL would I let my real brothers drive my car. I tried to teach one of them how to flat shift, and he would forget to dip the clutch, and just smash the gears when the right foot still on the juice.

My oldest brother lives in the UK, and is probably used to driving 1.5L diesel's, and he would suck at driving my car.

I'd let a homeless person that I only just met drive my fairmont.
Sprint is reserved for people I trust, and that I know can drive.
I won't let ex or current LS1 owners drive it though.

I'd let people that I knew had the skill and the mechanical sympathy drive it. I've been trying to get my girl to drive it but she's afraid of it!

My gf drives the EB sometimes (it's still good for around-town stuff). Hence, removing [FL4NG3] from my poll. lol @ innuendo

What's with all the polls lately? Is it like a nostalgia revivalist week or something? :P

I don't have a problem with others driving the EB. I still owe Gilly a skid from yeeeeeears back actually :D And a previous GF bottomed it out bad when paddock bashing in it (grass/mud + extractors = brown smoke lol)

EDIT actually come to think of it, I told a mechanic once to "not hold back" with doing a road test. 2 hours later I'm out the front of uni only to see my car belting past, full noise, doing about 30 above the limit. PMSL

only if they appreciate cars/engineering. i've never let anyone drive who couldnt fully explain understeer/oversteer and how to properly counter them both. but when i do let people in the pilots chair they all say the same thing. "this handles fucking nuts! best loungeroom on wheels ever! needs to be faster though..."

i let john drive the el and john lets me drive the ef. i trust himn to drive it and he says he trusts me.
i dont think i would let any friends drive my car unless it was neccessary, i know what alot of them are like in there cars and i dont want my car driven like that.

I've let my dad drive my car when he's flown down from interstate and needs a car to get to an appointment.

Used to be his car ages ago (I bought it, wasn't gifted to me), and it's changed a bit since he had it

With my friends I would be careful about who I'd let drive it - some I wouldn't trust to bring it back in one piece, and I know e-series guys definitely wouldn't bring it back in one piece (they'd call me later to let me know they took it to a car crusher for me).

I don't really like letting other people behind the wheel of my car just because I enjoy driving so much. But I let my brothers drive it if they need, close friends, and those who I know drive it hard ;) I remember when my car was converted to manual and I didn't know how to drive it so I let Damo do the honours, he drove it hard like I told him to and 'chirped 2nd' haha got me so excited.

I let an L plater drive the EA the other day to show him what the clutch was like... told him to rev out 1st and dose it, then had to tell him he probably should slow down because he was doing 140kmh in a 60 zone :-/ He won't be driving it again.

i drive cars and trucks and buses alot for work so jumping in someone elses car doesnt bother me . i have driven the turbo a few times now ( got a bit full on after sandown in the wet lol) i dont drive like a old lady and i never will but i wouldnt drive someones car if i wasnt comfortable with it.

    Hehe. Good times.

I use to have no problem with people driving my car. I got Doug to drive my car to Drag Tag to watch the skids, made him thrash it all the way there and back. Was tempted to put it on the skid pan, but we wouldn't have had a way to get home. Stopped near home and ripped some skids though, cause that was the theme of the whole night. :D

Best experience driving someone elses car was Sunnys` EA after we had converted it to manual, my first taste of BOOST!

I have a mate who has driven mine on a few occasions - My car isn't powerful but compared to his 4spd 82 corolla its a rocket - I ask him nicely to take it easy but can rev it a bit if he wants - Ends up flying around corners - Dropping the clutch left right and centre - He calms down when i remind him but then can't help himself - He loves it tho so at the end of the day all i can do is laugh

dont trust anyone with my car other then my dad and even then he only drives it out of the driveway to get to his car.

Mum n dad have driven my car before, a couple of times and I dont mind because both of them are good drivers and have driven falcons and stuff before.
I've let my gf drive it down the driveway ~500m, just coz she dont have her license and wanted to drive it.
As for my mates, theres only 1 or 2 I'd let drive it, not coz I'm over protective (much), its that they all drive farkin slotbox 4 bangers lol
I was gunna let my mate drive it while I drove his vr commo, but he's even more protective than me.... dont know why... commos done 320,000km+, has rooted paint, cracked clubby front bar, but 18" chromies.. possibly worth more than the car itself.

I let anyone drive my car... if they want to! Most (non-car) people are scared by the locked diff and the short travel of the clutch, and prefer not to drive it. I did once let a girlfriend drive it, and she was ok after about 100km's of practice keeping the revs up around corners etc. I'm not sure how keen I'll be to lend it with a bit more power under the bonnet though.

Although I do owe my mate Boston a drive (or 10!) of my car when it's completed from build 2, since he lent me his sprint for a few months while my car was off the road the first time. Good bloke! I also owe RustyEB1 a drive too, since he helped me with at least 50% of the first of the build! T_Terror (GUNNA) can drive it too... if he lets me drive his 67mm (T70) Supra the kent.

I have learny first hand, as to why others don't drive your car... Well noit really
I let my mates drive the car, only when i'm in it though, or if they really need it. It's only acar, and they know if they bend it, they bought it. Especially gutter rash, etc. Doesn't bother me if they blow the motor or something along those lines, cause it probably meant that it was going to go pretty soon with me driving it anyway.

Won't let anyone drive it. Not a trust issue, I just don't want any shit that would go down after an accident or what not. That stuff would be plain messy with mates.

Though if I still had the EA anyone could drive it. Next shitter will be the same. Price for stacking will be two slabs and all legal problems are their's.

If i trust them i will but only if i am a passenger with the exception of my dad, only because i know he is an awsome driver and will drive it properly the way its meant to be driven i.e. letting it warm up before driving it and letting it get to operating temperature before giving it any as well as being sensible with revs and wheelspin, driving hard but doing it the right way.

VERY few people drive my car, but those that I let drive it have earned my trust and I'm comfortable with them driving it. Only two people have driven my car anywhere without me in it with them though.

Lately I've let a few people drive my car. But I've always been in it at the time. Most of them have had deicated drift cars, and treat the car with respect. Always love the comments when there driving it tho :D

My cars worth bugger all but I still dont really like people driving it, id rather drive :) Plus Id only let people drive it who will pay for damage if they did any coz I cant afford to fix other peoples f*ck ups. Petes driven it quite a few times, to get rwc/reg etc before I got my license.
Dads driven my car to tow a trailor and the next day he fixed the towbar on mums car. Think he was a lil imbarressed of the pink, and possibly the big Barbie sticker on the back! Hahaha
