Hi! I'm Simon!

Introduce yourself and your ride.

Hi! I'm Simon!

Postby ONO_50 » March 18th, 2009, 9:15 am

Just taking the time to formally intro myself to everyone. I currently have a project EF gli 05/96 that i picked up ultra cheap cause it was damaged and the kid really had no chance in doing anything with it... lol

Car stands currently in a poor state, although some what better compared to its orginal. But the earliest pics i'll have it of is after i replaced the P/S/F guard so the front door would open fully -
* cleaned up all the shit on the inside -
* I've also in my time of having it i have replaced a rack end that was bent in a 'U' shape -
* popped a good portion of the P/S rear guard back into shape - Waiting on my panel beater to come round to start helping!!!
* replaced the leads and plugs with Bosch, and NGK-R units -
* Replaced both front indicator assemblies -
* Replaced the rear brake pads and rotors - Metal to metal, rotors measured 5mm! Managed to break one oh so easy hitting it with the claw hammer =|lol

The reason i figured now would be a good time to start a thread on this car is cause just as of yesterday, i managed to stumble along a real steal if i must say. It was the remains of a guttered Fairmont that appeared to be optioned with a tickford motor. Now my knowledge let me believe that the Fairmont Ghia was available for this option only. The only option was a V8 or a standard six with the Fairmont. But in saying all of this, does this mean this car will have XR suspension and a LSD with 3.45 ratio??? If someone could answer that'd be great. Anyways, so far what i have taken is the best part of whats left.
* Both complete rear doors - Very G.C
* Complete in G.C roof lining with interior map lights, and harness
* F.C rear bumper
* Boot lid with Fairmont garnish and lining on underside - G.C
* Rear complete seat - only minor stains, easly cleaned
* Full plush carpet - few stains again
* Alot of interior panels, Dash Fairmont badge, clips, screws nuts bolts etc
* Few spare panels like G.C P/S/F door, straight bonnet, both front panels, again straight, but different colors.

Now there is still a good portion left on the car. Eg Diff, both Front and Rear suspension, brakes and all components, Tranny cooler etc etc all of which should be more then likely coming off, either replacing the orginal kit on the car only if its better in most shapes or forms or going into storage for later usage hehe

For now I do not have any pictures to post, but today i'll be taking some due to working on the car/s

So thats another Hi, from Simon =) And i hope you all enjoy this build
Cheers!

Since it has the tickford motor id say it would have the rest of the running gear, including LSD, suspension. i Think the gear box's were all the same though.

Easiest way to know for sure is to check the tag on the back of the diff, should say "LSD HIGH" or something on the tag bolted onto the big nut... if it has that, then I think there would be a good chance it has XR suspension also.

Put some pics up ;-)

also check the compliance plate..

engine code would be X for the tickford motor- IF IT WAS FACTORY FITTED....

if code not X - then some else has put it in and the rest of the stuff may only be standard fairmont....

non lsd etc unless optioned

Hey guys! *2nd attempt at this... ****!!!*

Finally get the chance to update this page and keep ya all in the loop of whats been happening with this sled! Last couple of days, been sweating it out, ripping the GLi shit out, replacing it with better quality Fairmont gear - List starts here:

*Roof lining, map lights with full harness outta the Fairmont - Grab handles all round now as well
* Body harness, ripped the Gli out in place of the Fairmont unit simply to run power windows all round - Great thread on this site about doing this - Highly reccomend it as its easier then what it looks!!!
* Both rear doors with complete Fairmont units - Non leather but power windows
* Boot lid with Chrome garnish - Also has carpet on the inner side over the Gli

Also seeing the inteior is out i've been cleaning all panels, floor etc of dirt, shit and gime that has built up over the 266***k's of service. Moving onto the carpet - Required several good runs of the pressure cleaner and couple of soaks. End product is well worth the effort though with almost all the stains and dirt coming out. This carpet has a good grip on anything that is rubbed into it!!!

Can i please make a note to anyone out there with FAIRMONT gear - I need; Both front seats *non leather*, 2 complete Fairmont doors, power window switches for the centre console, a front bar and fairmont bonnet - Color is not a major concern *will take a straight panel over a correct color damaged panel* but the purpley/bluey silver is the matching color

Whats still left:
BLOODY HEAPS - lol - Got a better rear bumper to go on, panel work to be sorted, mags and suspension to be sorted etc etc etc *sighs*

A HUGE, i mean HUGE thanks out to the people that took the time to reply to my questions and generally welcome me to this site.
Thanks again
Simon

PS - Havent had time to host pics - If someone can PM an addy for me to send them to, it can happen!!!
Cheers
