Who knows this car? EB Turbo - ex owner Tristan (ebmanul)

Postby private9 » September 19th, 2007, 11:44 am

Hi All,

Just wondering who knows this car personally:

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=749

I'm interested in it, but I just don't know whether or not the price is realistic. Not too many turbo falcons pop up for sale, so I'm finding it a bit hard to guage whether the price is ok.

I do have an idea of how much a car like this would cost to build yourself, and while mechanically and interior wise it's exactly as I'd imagined, basically the body is nowhere near as good as the photos indicate and I'm struggling with the concept of forking out 7.5k on an EB which then needs a complete respray.

Any feedback or opinions are much appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin.

from what I can recall, you'd be looking at more than that to get the bits that are in it to put in a car with a better body, so even if you just use it for donor interior and mechanical parts that price is probably a win - from what i've seen of it, the setup was well done and fairly clean...

Yeah, definitely mechanicals would've cost far more than the asking price, and everything has been done very neatly and with quality parts.

I wasn't expecting it to be immaculate, but it needs the roof resprayed, and both back doors have some fairly big scuffs so they need to be beaten and spayed as well. The rest of the body is ok and in the sort of condition you'd expect a 14 year old car to be in. The interior needs to be done, but I was expecting that, and that's easy as.

I'm probably just being a tight arse, but I just wouldn't mind some second opinions on the car.

The work is already done but wont you need to put it back to stock to get a RWC? That might be too much like hard work.

Break it down into what the parts cost and go from there. Its around $2500 to get a wolf installed, he has $500 worth of injectors, $4k snort kit, T5, nice piping, AU motor etc.

Its close to what you could build one for but you dont have to build it.

Thanks for the advice Dan. Yeah, they're pretty much the sums I did and it's clearly obvious that much more has been spent than the asking price - but as we all know with modified cars, mods don't always equate to resale. Probably a little different in this case though, where it's pretty unique on the used car market. I don't have the time and space to build something like this myself, so it's a good way to get myself back into a quick car.

I guess the other way to look at it is to price it up against other cars of similar performace in the same price range - which to me equals a reasonably rough/stock VLT and not much else.

I only remember this car when tristan had it so no idea whats happened to it since, but when tristan had it it was decent and an awesome drive, yea a few body dints etc but it looked very mint when cleaned up if someone just tidied up the roof and door dint would be quite awesome.

Thanks mate, yeah, nice drive and goes okay. Would be quite nice with the body cleaned up. You can tell that it's been through a few owners, it's had a bit of silliness done such as the strip in the body moulds painted white with what looks like a brush, painted rocker cover, and a bit of body damage. It also has a few tune related issues, but nothing too bad.

It's got alot of potential though and it'd make a nice daily for me.

Hehe, no worries. Bed sounds good, but I fell asleep and had a grandpa nap before and now can't sleep. Thank god for this place!

Thanks Tristan! I'll try to hold onto this one for a while, you can tell you've put some money into it, that's for sure.

- And thanks again for all your advice leading up to the purchase, much appreciated.
