BF XR8 Vs FG G6 Vs FG XR6

Postby mooseman » March 25th, 2009, 2:28 pm

Im looking at buying a newer car. Those are my 3 options. Its going to be a cruiser sort of car. I noticed that you can get an exdemo FG G6 or XR6 for about 31,000 now and having a brother that works for ford will help me there. I was thinking about a BF XR8 first though but I dunno what to do. I haven't driven an FG yet so I would like some peoples opinions. I like the interiors alot more then the BF ones.

BFxr8 with out a doubt, just think all the first models of any new series are crap, EA, AUI, BA mk1, etc ive driven a few FG's and they feel like boats to be honest to big, very nice and quiet and safe esp and the like.

Yeh I know about the offersto employees. Its usually around now and they sell the 08 plated stuff really cheap to employees and immediate family but my brother doesn't think there is one coming up.

I would love a 5.4L Ghia but I don't want a 4spd auto. Find me one under 30gs with a 6spd and ill be on it!

My parents bought a new FG G6 with the 5 speed auto. Very nice to drive, quiet, very comfortable, smooth and just standard it has a bit of balls about it. Of course you could always wait a little longer and get a FG G6E Turbo!! :good:

I really liked the FG that I drove, if buying one I'd aim for something with the 6 speed ZF if you want auto though. Other than that, brilliantly well rounded cars - as long as you know you wouldn't get bored with it or jealous of people with 12 second XR6Ts...

And yes it's very hard to find V8 B-Series Fairmonts. My solution was to buy a H*****.

i dont get why people talk the 6sp zf up so much....

honestly in b series i find the 4 sp more comfortable. you have to bring revs right up off the line to the 6sp moving and the way it kicks down/holds gears i find annoying... sure its smarter than a 4sp but honestly i prefer my 4sp.... maybe just cos im used to the way it drives...

Maybe it's because you smoked up a whole gram of crack before you decided to post?
Bring the revs right up off the line?

Anyone who entertains buying a late model Australian V8 Ford or non-turbo six has rocks in their head.

Not always the case Tristan. A prime example is the XD-XF falcon series. The early stuff was v8 compatible, had alot less emission gear (christmas trees) and was alot less tempermental on the electrical side of things. ie. xe fairmont ghia vs xf fairmont ghia

If it has to be one of them go the BF XR8. Take one for a drive and you'll see what I mean. My only problem with them is they feel a bit lazy unless you're right up 'em. BF XR6T would be a better choice than any of those.

I've decided to pick up a series 2 FG XR at the end of the year when they come out. Just going to give another Eseries a thrashing until then.
