HELP: Replacing an ED instrument cluster

Postby Jack-5150 » June 14th, 2009, 10:43 pm

Hi guys,

Recently got my hands on a new ED XR6 instrument cluster, now I need some advice regarding it's proper installation.
Firstly, I drive an ED GLI, so I purchased the XR6 cluster to solve 2 problems...
1) odometer stopped working
2) absence of a tacho in the GLI's ugly outdated cluster

Thought I'd kill two birds with one stone:-P
Anyhow, what do I need to do to get this cluster working properly?

I removed the cluster to see what it was like, then put it back in until I could find a new one to replace it.
Most my experience in this area is with my mates' VP, VR and VS commodores. The only thing I am unsure about is the tacho as the GLI didn't come with one, would I need to make any modifications to get the tacho in the XR6 cluster working?

with an ED its plug and play you will have to swap over you oil pressure sensor for a guage style sender...

this is located about 4 inches to the read of the oil filter on the block and up about 2 inches...

tacho wiring is built into the standard GLi loom

other than that plug play enjoy

the oil pressure sensor will still work
but the guage will just show full pressure, no pressure instead of a light on or off.
