By the time he sat at the lights spooling up the cops would have had him surrounded.

A P-PLATE driver carrying three people under a tarp in the back of his utility led police on a short chase, Ballarat Magistrates Court heard yesterday.
The court heard Nicholas Paul Lee, of Invermay, was driving a Holden Commodore utility in Grevillea Rd, Wendouree, on June 25 when police began a pursuit.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Bob Anderson told the court police followed the 20-year-old for a short time, allegedly reaching speeds of 50kmh.
He said Lee hit a kerb, skidded to a halt and blew the front tyre before three males were located under a tarp.
The utility was impounded at the scene.
Lee was fined $2500 with conviction and received an 18-month good behaviour bond with the condition he completes a road trauma seminar and a driving course.
He pleaded guilty to recklessly conduct endangering serious injury and careless driving.
