Alrighty found myself a cheap hack to carry the dirtbike around and do the odd trip to the shops.

The mav is getting parted out due to lack of use and the cash from that is going to go towards house number 2 with the GF.

Its an XG ute with column shift, bench seat and dual fuel. Its been used as a work ute so the body is average at best but no major rust. It runs really well on both gas and petrol. It came with rego and was $1225. Less than what I sold my winch for last week. :)

The aircon and heater work but the heater isnt that warm. It might need a hotter thermostat.

The plans are to replace the brakes cos they are grinding, de surface rust and paint the tray and the other small spots around the car, get a rwc then maybe a different set of wheels. Want to get rid of that red stripe too. Its fairly gay. All the stickers have been removed already.

Looks fairly clean, and the tail gate looks in better condition than most.

Not a fan of the side moulds though.

Good luck with it :good:

shit you change cars more than you change your undies... whats the bet in 3 weeks you sold the mav then bought another one then turbo'd it then bought another ea then sold it, and the ute will also be nursing a ba motor and gt51r.

but yeah this one seems like its a good choice as it can take ya bike and be a station hack.

That sounds like a bit of an exaggeration. Ive had the mav for over 3 years now and the last 2nd car I had registered was September last year.

It fits on an angle trav but I cant tie the bike down properly. I need to add some tie down points further back in the tray. Might get onto that after the rwc stuff next week.

I went riding today. Its so much more convenient than towing a trailer. Not getting 35 litres per hundred is nice too.

I gave up trying to tie my bike down on an angle, could never get it as secure as i liked. (ive had bikes jump off trailers before, so im ultra paranoid now lol) i ended up using an extra chain to hold the tailgate tight against the bike and never had a problem that way.

the key to keeping bike tied down proply is to obviousely tie the front forks down tight but most people dont tie the back wheel down and thats what lets them jump of trailers ;)

lol Dave.

Im trying to figure out how to mount my UHF antenna and 2 spotlights without it looking like a B+S special. XF headlights suck arse. There must have been more moon light in the 80's.

Im thinking about having 2 wiring plugs and a wingnut mounted system for the lights so I can take them off and mounting the antenna under the top of the tray behind the rear window. You can buy light bars that screw into where the number plate screws in and my lights are really light so that should be ok and it will be easy to take off when Im not driving in the dark.

I'm going to (eventually) buy something similar for the EF, they're called a Unibar, there are sometimes sets on ebay that sell for $60 (free postage).

Does the antenna have to be vertical? Maybe you could have it in the tray?

Good point evan. Its not really a daily. A daily would imply i have something worthy of not being a daily at home. Everyone else on here does it though. :-P

Unibar sounds good dave. Twinlights would be nice but its not a fancy car and i already have the lightforces which would put out heaps more light anyways.

If i ever make it look pretty they would be on the cards though, they look heaps better.

How much were the lightforces if you don't mind me asking? I made a thread on AFF because I had NFI about spotlight brands, & a lot of people replied saying Lightforce 170s are the way to go.

ebay + dialup = gay. Anything other that boostedfalcon or facebook on dialup is gay, which is why I haven't really looked too far into spotlights yet. Plus local stores were selling pairs for close to $400 :?

I have the lightforce 170's. They were $330 off ebay. They are strong as hell and you can swap the lenses over in 10 seconds to have spread or spot beams in all different colours in case its foggy or rainy or whatever. When I hit the tree in the mav the lights were smashed into my bonnet. The bonnet copped a massive dent from the light but the light was fine. :D

Roo lites are also good, they are a cheaper copy.

I had HID'd lightforce 240s at one stage. They were awesome but cop bait where I had to put them on the mav.

Where is this $37 camira?

Can it carry a ktm?

Those twinlights - how much better than stock are they? 11ty or only a little?

On the topic of this ute I noticed that on gas it seems to run out of go up high in the rev range and its not changing gears when it should. I have to put it on petrol to overtake at 100 for example.

I think Ill put the gas research gear from the mav onto it but Im not sure why it doesnt change gear properly on gas. It seems fine on petrol.

Any ideas?
