from what i was told by the person at vicroads i didnt need to tell them. the only time i need to tell them is if i have changed the motor.

02 vx commodore.
Basically stock. Might fit a ls1 and manual eventually.

Oh and a 93 dc 2 Ltd. Rusting away. Past the point of being saved

just remember to tell your insurance company, I hesitated to do it for a year until my insurance had to be renewed as I thought I would of had to pay more, but it turns out it was exactly the same price when I got it changed

i suggest taking it vicroads guys as soon as you get a chance.

when i put the 5ltr in my vt i didnt do it for like a year, until i got pulled over for a canarie and they checked the engine number, they were going to impound the car cos it was different.
the car itself didnt need an engineers as that model was also released in a 5ltr, but you do have to change the numbers over at vicroads.
not sure if its the same for a gearbox, id say it would be.

lukily the 5ltr i put in was a brand new block and i had the receipt at home from the company i bought it off with the engine numebr on it which my dad bought down and showed them that the motor matched the receipt.

copper said if details dont correspond to the registration details on file, they are allowed to hold the car at impound for 24hours or until its rectified.

get it changed, saves the hassle later on - there is actually a fine for not telling them as well.

Just a random question. Whats stopping people from machining numbers off blocks and putting their old engine numbers on there? Im sure if someone was desperate enough to steal an engine they would go through some extra steps to keep it from being known.
