Hit in the Rear

Postby iliov » July 21st, 2009, 11:47 pm

Hey people

Got hit in the rear last night while at the lights. Guy took his foot off the brake and rolled into me. He popped the rear bar out and broke the mounts. He has full comp etc. Just curious as to quality places to take it to get fixed in s.e melb.

Also i heard that repairers have to re spray the whole car if im not happy with their job after the 3rd attempt. Any one know if this is true?

Cheers

they will paint all the way to your back doors anyway. shouldnt be too bad.

just make sure they use the plastic additive in the paint other ur paint will crack like mine did. helps the paint stretch a little with the plastic.

ABS = spongy brakes, but you'll slow to about 60

non-ABS = lock up at 100 & skid past the roo doing about 95. But you'll look sick doing it

I'd recommend Sheen Panel Service in Malvern.

My wife just had a carpark bingle a few weeks ago, and literally bumped a VR in the back right door. Left a scuff on our back bumper, left a ding in the VR's back door. Replacement door and spray/blend at absolute worst.

I've got the quote in front of me, and the shifty knts have claimed through our insurer what equates to an entire car respray, several replacment panels, new headlights, tail lights, towbar wiring hooked up , new front guard inner liners etc etc. Rang up RACV, and they explained to me that being 2pak paint, they have to match it perfectly hence what may look to me like an exorbitant bullsh1t quote. He went on to explain how specialised these things are and why the opposite side of the car would neeed to be repainted :o

I also questioned why a fkd 93 VR Exec with over 350k on the clock (as shown on the quote) wasn't just written off!

So yeah, if you wanna scam the silly bugger who accidentally hit you and get a full respray outta what should be a bumper paint, Sheen Panel Service in Malvern :drinks2:

Nah, costs my insurance more and from what I understand because we're at fault, it'll affect our premium.

But for example isn't there a maximum amount that your premium can go up regardless if you cause $1000 or $90,000 damage?? If its above your excess which i believe is $400 and something the final cost doesn't matter?

Yeah, makes no difference on the claim we have to make, but our insurance renewal goes up based on us making an at fault claim. Either way though, it's this sort of activity that raises insurance for us all.
