gee where to start

herrod motorsport - car was underpowered left my car with them to diagnose, they charge me $250 to advance my timing and make it detonate to produce 130rwk on an H/C/I combo for a windsor and said to me 5.0l windsor barely see over 150rwk...... waaaaaahhhhh i shouldov brought a VTEC

Cosmo auto developments in airport west - fail completley.....said he knew how to do a top end build. Got a car back with 3 vacuum leaks from explorer manifold conversion and TPS held down with wood glue and cable ties.... and didnt align camshaft at 0 dgrees. dumb kunt

Electrition place on sydney road in fawkner....across the road from the cemetary (cant remember there name cause i dont give a shit) - car was missfiring.....took it there, he said it was tune miss and not electrical. Then took it to bluepower, not a tune fault "a hard miss". took it back to the electrition ABUSED the fark out of the fag asking what did i pay for you to diagnose?.......cracked the shits and went through my electrical system myself. Found a cracked sparkplug :glare:

Ultratune - LOL, car had another missfire. Took it to them. They came back with nothing couldnt diagnose the problem and said " your car goes alright i heard these where slugs". fucking wanker. found out myself a few leads were burning on the extractors

plus side,
blue power are good. Just always busy. Best i have come across so far.

got countless other crappy stories about mechanics not knowing what they are on about. Loveeeeee when they get caught out on shit they claim to know but dont. PLUS most mechanic places iv been to wayyyy overcharge for labour per hour. Fark 200 bucks in labour to change a starter motor, 300 bucks to change springs. crazy shitttt... conclusion "every motor mechanics are fucked. i just do shit myself but im only limited into what i can do for certain problems. yet to find a good general mechanic....

I have some bad story's but cbf telling them so ill only tell the good.

Kev off the forums here has always done top work. Did my manual conversion. He broke my ecu cover but made up for it with genuine ford floor mats and new tail lights. I cant complain. Also his prices are really cheap compared to anywhere else i know of.

Yeah I've seen Vic's XR, LUXO_302 would accidentally if he saw it :D

Independent Motorsports quoted $5k?!? Shit, that's insane. They have some fairly serious cars go there though (that 8 second VL from Maffra). Apart from a power run there when my car was stock (109rwkw, woohoo) I haven't had anything done there, no reason other than I just haven't picked them to go to.

RE Customs in Springvale. Always horn cars in the carpark (race and street), and the workshop itself is always packed and there's a bit of a wait, so you'd assume they do good stuff, and you'd assume right.

Pro's: They're fast once they get to the car, they know what they're doing, they won't turn their nose up at a "heap" of a car, or a heap of work, and they do exactly what you ask of them.

Con's: Slight wait to get car in, deal mostly in haltech (not an issue really, and they do tune other ecus). Seems to be 99% imports.

Over the years i have had a few cars painted and so on, and I must say Polo Body Works in Braeside has impressed me the most.
They are no way the cheapest, however you get an excellent job for your money.
They did my Pantera, and a few mates cars and have been very happy with his work.

Couple of fellas have had dramas with tyre joints. I've used Tyre power in Berwick, among a couple of others and they are IMO the best for service. Same couple of guys work there, Nigel and someone else, top work, never an issue. and honest.

Bad - Tyre joint on cnr princess and Dandy-Frankston in Dandenong. Over priced for horrid tyres, left brake dust all over my seats, centre console, door trims steering wheel et. al.
Oh, and that was after waiting for about 3 hours to get tyres fitted, after he said, yeah no dramas, be done in a minute.

Tyrepower Berwick? They broke two of my locknuts, put the broken nuts back on the car (passenger side), parked it so I couldnt see it, and didnt tell me about it. Got home, noticed, abused them. Made them pay for another set of locknuts.

Bad experiance with Ultratune at Moorooka.

We had spent 2 days fitting my new head/cam (as in sig) and of course the orginal timing chain had stretched.
Since I worked less than 500mtrs from Ultratune, I asked them if they could replace the chain and guides as I had run out of time and wanted the car back on the road. They took the job. Dropped the car off at 8am. Went to pick it up and found that they had, bent the power steering pulley, stuffed the seal on the sump, making it leak at least 500mls a day and it still had the chain noise, because they hadn't reset the tensioner!.

So basically, it went in with one problem and came out with three. Never since have I taken my car/4wd to a "professional" workshop! :banghead:

i went to beaurepairs in cairns for a wheel allignment and they had a pretty steep driveway and i told the guy at the counter it was lowered. then wen they were done, some old c**t jumped in it to drive around the block, hit the driveway straight on at like 15k. front bars got no paint under it and is pushed up now. no common sense.

The Bridgestone Tyre place next to rooter on Canterbury rd in Kilsyth - Really good service! Every time I've gone there they have gone out of their way to help. By far the best tyre place I've been to.

Impact Automatics in Coolstore rd Croydon - Brilliant customer service and work. Everyone I've recommended to them has been very happy also :)

TTF Mitcham - Not the friendliest bunch of blokes, but there's nothing wrong with the work they do.

TTF Dandenong - Pretty much the same as above.

Re: Workshop experiences

Postby john rv » December 31st, 2009, 3:59 pm

Can anyone recommend a service centre/mechanic somewhere between Dandenong and the CBD (south east melbourne)? My current mechanic is pricey and never fixes everything on the car. I often get the service report back and it say replace 'x' in 2000 km's, replace 'y' in 1000 km's, etc etc. Plus I don't think he knows much about LPG. (I have a std el ghia on gas and its running rough).

Any recommendations?

I mainly judge a place on price, I'm a jew when it comes to cars so if I get a cheap price I'm happy with a place, customer service is a bonus.

Recent good dealings with the following places;

- Herrod Motorsport: They did me a good cashie last week but they didn't really give a shit about the car because it wasn't a brand new FG GT and I wasn't pumping thousands in to their workshop. But they did what I wanted, got me in when I wanted and had me out of there within 2 hours.

- Etheridge Ford Ringwood Service Dept: Service Advisors are very friendly and happy to help with non-standard questions. Also went out of their way to repair a long list of small things I brought up under warranty on my G6E Turbo

- Cylinder Tech (Tim Kaddis): Been in there a few times to get a few quotes. Tim's always happy to help and have a chat, even if it doesn't mean he gets a sale or work. I highly recommend him.

- Bayswater Automatics: Best priced auto trans joint in the area. Mainly good for your old school low-tech stuff though, and servicing. 2 of the guys in there couldn't work out that there was something wrong / what was wrong with a ZF box in an F6 I had.

Ultratune Geelong, i was loosing coolant and car was running like shit they charged me $69 and told me it was a faulty coolant sensor and they want more money to work the rest out (later found out it was a blown head gasket .....) 0/10

TTF Geelong, scratched my brand new typhoons wasn't happy, they discounted the tyres. 0/10

JAXquickfix tyres Geelong, Best service and price can't go wrong. 10/10

TransDiff - useless as tits on a bull. Rebuilt the 9" in my XF twice...broke axles twice and shat axle bearings first. I told them I wanted the axles out of it the first rebuild they did, one was fractured spline to hub. (Mates doing before I bought it- AvGas + 200km/h = busted XF...and lots of skids lol) Alright price, but shit service 2/10

Status Gearbox & Diff (Kilsyth) - Built the T5 that was in my ED, now behind my brothers VK V8, copped heaps of punishment and still going strong. Built T5 for my 5l which I haven't had a chance to use yet :( but great service, and knows his shit. Price is up a bit but worth the money 8/10

Aldek Automotive (Croydon) - loves his Holdens, but is awesome with gas tuning. Had my XF running perfect with good drivability. Reasonable prices and good service. 8/10

Bob Jane (Albury) - great deals, great guys to deal with. Always very helpful. Couldn't get the wheel alignment right last time they did it (camber needs adjusting) so they didn't charge me for it. Told me to bring it back and they will go at it again. 9/10 for service and price - they do great deals for repeat customers too

Never really used workshops, as I do all the work myself.

Had a few wheel alignments at Tyrepower in Sale, one good, one terrible.
Got the 33s on my patrol balanced at Bob Jane in Traralgon the other week as my balancer is broken. Did a pretty good job, no complaints. Will be trying their wheel alignment abilities as I CBF.
