Thanks :) good economy too...was towing the boat home from fishing trip this weekend from the coast. At first toll on the motorway my fuel warning light came on. Car was loaded to the roof on back drivers and middle seat. I had 3 passengers and a loaded boat. Made it all the way to yamanto. :D

haha nope.....dont ever seem to need to...today was concerning tho was at jacob's well boat ramp on the lowest tide ive seen. Folks trailers were hanging off the boat ramp and there was shit loads of wet sand all over the ramp. Saw an AUXR8 Ute bag em up trying to pull his boat out. (tbh I think he was being a tool giving it too much throttle given an SSZ ute had very little wheel spin pulling a similar size boat out). Will say tho I love my torque. wheel spun in drive but put her in 1st and she pulled the boat (while being fully loaded herself) pulled it out like a tractor.

the cool thing about me keeping this car automatic is I have a spare XR6 ECU for it :D. But yes...the manual side of stuff is fun I will saying having driven the red XR6 which is manual. But geeze I tow way better then his car :P not that his struggles but it sure eats juice towing. The camping/fishing trip I did we normally take both XR6s for but we were short on cash to fuel both cars and a boat so we just fuelled mine and the boat. Somehow I fit it all in my car :P

next time try the power switch it hellps a fair bit especialy when coming to hills just hangs the gears out longer and drops down better when it feels effort,

ahh ok wouldn't it actually rev higher and eat more fuel tho? due to power mode probably putting it in a lower gear? cause pulling up hills she does it no worries in econ mode....sits on a tops of 2500 RPM up hills and cruises along at 100KPH at about 1800 RPM while towing.

not really if a cars stugling up a hill you natraly cellerate more and it chews more juice and by having it on power moder it drops down a gear and its less throttle required to climb the hills,my dad used to just drop down a gear when coming to a hills worked a treate

Ok an update......One I wished I was never going to have to make. Last night I ended up in a nose to tail photos will be up as soon as I can upload them on my mates computer. Basically was on my way to a mates place when a girl in a red manual VZ Clubbie ute decided to slam on the breaks and dive down the gears for a stupid little bunny rabbit that ran across the road and sadly long story short .....94 automatic doesn't quite break anywhere near as well...especially going down hill.....and as a result I hit the back end of her car.

The bonnet and grill with lights is fucked. The front lip...I fear is fucked....front bumper front quarter panels radiator condenser all shagged..radiator support looks kinda twisted..id say clutch fan is shagged...car still sort of moves at walking pace but was towed to crash yard. Tomorrow Suncorp go to look at it thank god I am insured.

cheers....wont know anything till hopefully tomorrow as to whether its fixable or they will write it off.....its insured for an agreed value of 6200....however I get the wonderful fun of coughing up a 700 dollar excess. which is a bit of a sting. Given there are like no ED XR6s for sale atm in Queensland and that I loved this car its my hope that she is fixable.

will hopefully have pics up tomorrow night.

tell me about it.....Crawford crash repairs said its going to be close. They are getting hard to get panels for and it is going to take a fair amount of work. He said it may even take a month or two to get the parts in. He reckins he did one recently that had been rear ended. He said it was difficult to find a rear bumper for one. I said well i've got another front bumper for the car it just needs to be painted but he didn't seem interested in second hand parts.

He reckins he has found a place that is remaking them so beats me. I am praying to god and hoping...that it doesn't cost 6200 or more to fix. I will say tho......I hate fucking bunny rabbits right now......and people who decide to slam on breaks for them.

Its a write off 8000 dollars to fix. Without any filewall damage and with no real subframe damage. 7200 without aircon or radiator. Thats fucking bullshitly gutting. Sigh

Well made me cry pulling my sterio and front lip off the car turns out the lip is actually ok I thought it was split but its not. I have another plan up my sleeve but first I have to find out what it is going to cost me to buy the car back off suncorp. If its affordable all may not be lost.

I really dont seem to have much luck with anything right now. And well the following distance I left is the normal amount I have always left and never really had any issue pulling up till that fateful night.

Factors that worked against me. Breaks were probably getting on the shitty side. Car is automatic so hitting the break peddle is about all I could do. Note to self autos can never have never and will never stop as effectively as manuals.

Especially when the manual has 12 years technology to it's advantage.

Don't you still have the headlights and grill from the white one...?

If I were you I would buy it back, hunt down parts and fix it later. The other parts are cheap and plentiful mate.

Did the ABS kick in? Or could you not get the foot down hard enough?

And dont think it would have been much different in a maunal... usually the time it takes for clutch in- pick/find gear- clutch out takes longer than you would imagine in that situation. And is usually not much more effective than a working emergency brake (i know its in a shit place) The brain naturally freezes.

Anyway mate. Sorry to hear about the loss and i hope things work out :good:

The ABS I think worked but the issue I have with it.....in new age cars. ABS breaks then lets the break off and then back on really fast. in the ED I found that period where the car lets the break off is alot longer then it should be.

As for if it worked.....well I left no skid marks but It looks like I flat spotted the rears. /shrug beats me. As for the delay in clutch.....compression locking combined with new age breaks that the HSVs come out with no way my girl was going to stop in time. Other factors are that my pads and rotors were worn I knew they were....I just being unemployed for 4.5 months...I wasn't able to afford to get them done :(.

In regards to plans my brother spoke to a friend of his who is a proper panel beater like actually beats panels he restores cars and such. Reckins he could fix it for 1 10th of the price that crawford reckin. Problem is suncorp are being bitches and trying to tell me shit like they will have to delay my payment by canceling it to reapply it by subtracting the buy back price (what a crock of shit) so my plan is to get the pay out and then try to buy her back. If I have enough cash to atm I need a good car to get around in. I am looking at a nice futura classic in same colour that is even straighter then the XR6 was.

Questions I have tho.......what features did futura classics have over futuras?

btw this is a link to the car
