G'day. Just joined here.
Was going to post a new thread on the same subject but diff model, but saw this thread and this post by Sundeep so I thought I'd just post here instead.
Does anyone know the best Ford email/phone specific to this sort of query? I'm in the process of buying a '97 Fairmont EL, will pick it up either this weekend or next. I wanted to find out how many '97 Fairmonts (straight 6) were produced in total. If I can find out how many were made in this colour (gunmetal grey) that would be even better. It's un-modified and I'm going to keep it like that, also only done 179,000 k's and has had 2 owners with full service history. It's in top nick. I last drove a '65 Falcon XP (20 years ago, yer I know I'm old) and ended-up selling it to some guy in Central Vic who wanted it to work on, that car was in orig condition though had been given a pretty hard life, not like this EL. He was really happy to have it come his way and I saw the value of having a car which was verging on vintage after having it for a long time and then seeing it go to someone who really appreciated finding it. I loved the XP so much and had so little trouble with it that I decided that my next car was also going to be a Falcon. After doing a load of reading on the Falcon history, the e-series shot out as the best car for me to think about getting, both in style and mechanical/features, and the info on the development and handling made the EL my final choice. I also see the EL as the last 'classic' Falcon body shape before the rounded roofline of the AU and following cars, which everything has now. In years to come I think the squarer, more conventional roof shape will set the classic cars aside from all the euro-styling which is making all makes and models appear like they're the same car. Same goes for the EL headlights, now they're all triangles and look like clown cars, give me a classic looking car any day. Anyway, my plan with the EL is to continue caring for it as it's been used to, drive it forever and then one day when I'm too old to drive anymore, sell it to a Ford fan who will appreciate the fact it's in great condition still (hopefully) and all in its orig factory state, alloys and all. By that time an EL with no mods and in orig condition will probably be a curiosity or a museum piece, if these forums are anything to go by anyway!
I wanted to find out how many EL Fairmonts were made, I can find the total EL population figure produced on the Fordfacts EL page, but nothing anywhere online for just the EL Fairmonts. I read here that Ford is the best place to go to ask, but if anyone has done this and knows a specific number or email to use to get to the right info quicker, then would appreciate the heads-up.
Cheers Guys,
Lee
