place to get gaurds rolled

Postby Snaken » August 31st, 2009, 3:30 pm

gday just wondering if anyone knows a relativly cheap place to get my guards rolled... or should i attempt it myself?

heat the edge with hair drier (softens the paint so it doesn crack)
and jus fold them up.
some people roll a bat or bar between the wheel and guard.

but yeh $80 aint cheap

Get a rag, block of wood, and a rubber mallet.
Take wheels off.
Place rag over wood and place on the out side of the guard
bash inside guard with rubber mallet
??????

I had someone try that exact procedure on my car.

end result = no cutting of tyres by the pulled down guard with bonus split paint.

Not impressed, im waiting for a huge bit to flake up and leave a bald bit of body above the wheel arch. The person doing it could tell that this distressed me and didnt continue to do the other side, i will probably do that myself with the aid of heat.

Anyone know a sealant i could use to stop this paint flaking away? can get pics if needed.

Did he do it with heat?

The heat should have stopped the paint cracking, unless he did too much, too quickly.

Its heat and go gentle.

Thats why ill do it myself next time.

The rear guard arch is a known rust spot, you could call someone like the dint doctor, they do touch up type repairs.

its only the front ones i need done, and one is (kinda but cracked lol).

Tyres only hit the guard when turning if i hit a bump they will bounce up and get cut up cos a bit has been pulled down and its sharp. If straight then they go into the arch and ther is no problem, but it makes for trouble when turning off fast roads or going into driveways

A few years ago I took my EL to Stylerod in Croydon. They did a good job and it was pretty cheap IIRC.

I did my own with a wooden axe handle and hitting it with a hammer... not the prettiest job if you stick your head up in the guard (dunno how the fuk your gnna do that, but anyway), I didnt flake any paint off, and that was without heat. It was about 40 degrees outside when I did it though lol. Took a few hours to do just the rears.
