Its just sounds like its missing a cylinder but it has to be something simple as it will run perfect for hours from idle to full throttle and in between and then randomly start missing.

Our conclusion is that maybe one of the coils isn't connecting properly to the spark plug as they are missing the top rubbers to hold them in tight.

Its missing all the rubbers under the coil cover except for the 2 that sit on the bolts, also missing the seal that runs around the coil cover.

No engine light comes on at all, i think an error code came up to do with one of the coils?

Yeah something about the 6th one i think, not sure tho cause Brad didnt seem too concerned with it.

Put some injector cleaner through it today to clean them out :-)

It has to be something loose or something not contacting properly as i said before it can run perfect on boost/off boost for hours and then revs drop and it starts missing.

Still doesnt feel right, although i only drove it about 2k's befor

I think we'll have to try replacing the 6th coil see how that works.

have u got a scan tool kaddis? does it have a power balance.. you can diagnose which coils it is by running a power balance (checks crank speed and finds misfires) and then change coils once one is detected and see if it moves... IDS does it but unsure if a snap on scan tool would have that feature... maybe the flash tuner? is it a xcal 3 or 2? it might have it in the data logging software.....

silly question but have you guys pulled the coils and checked the resistance of the the primary and secondary sides?
the primary sides should all be the same within 0.2ohm
the secondary side should be within 200k ohm

another thing you can try is to run the car at night (pitch black with no lights) with the coil cover off and look for any blue flashes between the coil and the engine.
i'm assuming that you gave the coils a good look over for any splits, cracks, blisters, etc? even faint lines can open up in to cracks as the coils get hotter as the engine heats up, allow the spark an easy escape to ground.

if still nothing check the terminals in the plugs on the wiring harness, get something the same thickness as the pins in the coil and make sure the terminals are grabbing the test pin.
make sure the wiring hasn't come loose in the terminal causing a bad electrical connection, grab the wiring and give it a light pull, disconnect and reconnect the engine electrical connector ( big black thing near PCM) just incase there is some Corrosion between the pins that is creating resistance

do you have a multimeter? crank the engine with the coils disconnected and measure the voltage that each coil is receiving, should be the same voltage for each otherwise you may have a bad earth, or a bad wire between the PCM and the coil. have another car running with jumper leads connected to keep consistent battery voltage and allow time between testing each coil output to allow the battery to recover.

hope this helps and let us know how you go

on a side thought, check the connections to you injectors too, just incase a plug isn't clipped on properly.
unplug them, check that the terminals in the plug haven't spread, reconnect them and make sure the clip grabs when you push them back on.
i doubt the injector are blocked unless you've had shitty fuel.

Thanks for the replies guys :-)

The car was put on one of those scanner thingos (snap on one) and it said something about the 6th spark plug/coil...this could be the issue as there was some white powder on the actual coil once removed

Actually this may help, the breather on the cross over was cracked and leaking oil until i replaced it.

The coil pack cover didnt have its rubber seal put back on causing the oil to sit under the cover, we did however find some oil in the holes where the spark plugs sit.

Could this have damaged the coils??

My brother had the same thing in his xrt but his is manual. he took it down to shepp and it was running fine on the way there but on the way back it ran like a piece of crap he took it down to his mate they cleaned the exaust sensor and changed the oil and oil filter and after that it was still running a little crappy but next major service it was fixed. if ur mechanic cant fix it and if your car is under warrenty maybe try taking it down to ford?

if you have oil around the spark plug it will ground the coil to the head preventing the spark getting to the spark plug,

it may damage the coil because the spark plug has a high resistance were as the oil would reduce the resistance to zero

it wouldn't be something like a crank angle / cam angle sensor on it's way out?

say it misses a couple of teeth and the PCM doesn't realise it's missed a tooth which shifts the timing giving rough running?

Im no mechanic as you all prob have realised, but its blown a few fuels in the last week, relating to the lights (number 23 from memory)

Could this whole issue be something to do with an electrical fault??

I think i should stop the bush mechanic style and take it to a mechanic, as this trial and error system is costing heaps of money to no answers..

haha went on the cruise today and got alomst to Geelong when i decided to pull over cause it was running bad.

Got it home and had a mechanic connect the comp thingo too it, where it again said issues with 6th coil...

Replaced it again and checked everything over and still stuffed....

Now thinking issues with the ecu...

with all the fucking round you have been doing in regards to coils and plugs i'm kinda not surprised nothing changed. it has to be a crappy sensor causing the glitch.
