When does a fireman decide that cutting through legs is a better idea than cutting up a car?

Depends on how this happened, could've been trying to be a fully sick drift king, could've swerved to avoid a pedestrian.

A friend of mine was involved in a similar accident, lost control of his car (at the speed limit) trying to avoid a truck parked across half his lane in the middle of a corner - http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/art ... _news.html

He was in hospital for a while, but no lasting effects.

I think sometimes in situations like this the passenger can seem fine or just a bit messed up from the outside but internally their really hammered and often dying which is when those kinds of decisions and assessments are made to save a life, usually its the last resort tho, still never nice to hear about but.
by the way ford should take a ticket for that if anyone let alone the driver can survive! looks a bit worse with the roof cut off but my god hes one lucky bugger!

Even the fact those artery are there, Fireman wouldn't cut a human full stop, Jaws of life/Cutting tools are only used if it is going to cause no harm to the occupant of the car. (In Victoria at least)

If he was amputated it would of been done by a Doctor/Mica Paramedic on the scene.

He had to be going fairly quick to get the old Falcooon to bend like that, least its another B-series off the road.

your right paramedics and some fancy name for a surgeon were on standby, i know the MFB have some extent of advanced first aid as theyre sometimes the first on the scene to crashes and often get to jab junkies in the heart with a shot of adrenalin to get em going again, but yeah definatly wouldnt be pulling out the knives

I don't personally know the guy but know of him and the car, ~700hp, powerglide etc. and just had it tuned the week before. And he was already in a wheelchair before the accident so was using hand controls. Apparently this is the 3rd XR turbo he's written off.

ABS = spongy brakes, but you'll slow to about 60

non-ABS = lock up at 100 & skid past the roo doing about 95. But you'll look sick doing it

Quote from Ambulance spokeswoman Lauren Nowak...

"She said it was possible the man had suffered serious internal injuries in the crash."

Poor guy but kinda serves him right...doing that sorta speed on the streets is asking for trouble, yes a nice big burnout or "dump second" power slide at low kms isn't going to bend your car in half..
