Good Samaritan retired mechanic?

This woman said she had a flat battery. Got some retired mechanic to replace it and carried on. Then not long after her motor was "cooked" so the engine needed replacement.

The retired mechanic loaned her an E series so she could continue her trip to SA and his good Samaritan gesture made the news.

Does this sound odd to anyone else?

So he "replaced the battery" and then the engine over cooks 40km later. Sounds like he did something else besides "fix" it...

I reckon he ignored the missing fan belt.

Fan belt breaks. Water pump stops. Battery goes dead.

New battery = car running long enough for it to "cook".

Yeah they're definittely more willing to help out a stranger, but that's pretty extreme. Maybe he had more than one car or is really lonely (or horny - they eventually run in parallel).

That Mechanic has been in Beaufort for since I can remember his building is in the VACC add and him and his Brother or Best Mate IIRC run in several Bash Events on a yearly basis.

I think after 50+ years a small community like Beaufort would soon work out if he was dodgy or not.
