Matt's EL Fairmont Ghia

Postby TROMPD » August 25th, 2009, 7:36 pm

hey guys the names matt havent been on here long but decided to show you guys my new car.
Its not boosted but one day i hope it will be ( stupid p plate restrictions!)

Its a 1996 Ford EL Fairmont Ghia.
I bought the car off DEFKTV about 3 weeks ago now.
Was a good buy in my eye's had a few problems with it like the gear box being buggered its got a solenoid inside the gearbox gone an a switch on the side, a part of the heater hose connected to the heater tap cracking an throwing out 6 litres of water in a 5 minute drive. Aswell heater/AC not working, rear left window not going back up after you put it down. The head unit blowing up the saturday after i bought it.
Roadworthy was relatively simple was just 4 new tyres, ball joint boots, to low, indicator broken and a few little grommets out of the sparewheel well missing.

Its all in my name now an since i have put a new Berklee Catback exhaust on, different head unit in,new rear speakers and a 12" kenwood sub an amp.
After fixing the gearbox tint will be the next thing on the list do. i want it nice an dark
Soon to be happening i hope is a few engine mods i.e, cam, new head, thinner head gasket and pod filter. Diff is tight as hell but sometimes makes a weird whining/grinding noise when you give it to it so i want to get that checked out. Aswell i have a T5 Gearbox sitting here just need a bell housing, pedal box, clutch cabel and a manual computer but half hearted on putting it in.
Sooner or later some 19's thinking GT-P's but everyone has them so atm just keeping my eye out for something cheap and preferably pre au.

An heres the pics enjoy :) (Sorry for the poor quality)

Eventually it will grow into alot more but for now thats it. It will be my daily driver as im more into the older cars an i just want something reliable with a bit of stab to get me round :).

Has always had a problem with licking up the water an seems to be a cracked head atm so work to be done to it asap although its still drivable without causing any damage the water just seems to be going out the exhaust.
Its pretty neat its got its down falls like the dint in the drivers door and a few key scratches.
Interior is in ok nick except the seats seem to be fallin apart. So a little work to get her to what i want.
Just ticked over 250000 on friday :) so took her out for some birthday skids last night :)

Hey, does your Ghia 'clunk' when you change it from park into drive, and into reverse? I have been looking for a new car, and I test drove a Ghia exactly the same as this, it ran perfectly except for a 'clunk' when changing into D and R.

I've heard these models do it sometimes and it only requires a Auto trans service if it isn't damaged.

hey yeh it does actually
i had mine checked out out an it was a switch on the side of the box as well as a solonoid in the box.
i was quoted $400 to fix it including a service might not be as bad its normally just the switch thats gone.
you really dont notice it if the revs are right. i have had mine for 2 months an it only does it once a day if even that an i flog it. lol.

Hrm $400 isn't too bad, is it.

Yeah I'm considering buying this Ghia, except I was hesitant because of the gearbox clunk. If it isn't a major problem, then I'm not too worried about it anymore :D
I have a mate that could probably fix it for cheaper, we will see.

Thanks for the reply! ;)

lol there are more than 3 engineered. Rollin, Gozza, Malakai, BT's old ED and Revengelane are just a few. That's nearly double what you've said without leaving Brisbane alone.
