Recommended Workshops/Car Places Etc.

Postby oneredED » September 24th, 2007, 9:56 pm

Ok guys, heres the deal. After seeing a friend get dicked about by several well known tuning shops with his bike, I wanna start a thread with all the workshop/exhaust/suspension etc etc places you've had good dealings with! We have no sponsors that I'm aware of, so this would be a good opportunity to name some good places we can (most likely) trust with our cars or parts.

Slagging off places is not this threads intent, so if you want to do that, create another one.

I'll start it off!

NAME:Chegwin's Exhaust, Ararat, Victoria.
Workmanship: 8/10
Turnaround Time: 5/10
Customer Service: 10/10
Cost: 10/10
Notes:It may not be useful to any of you given the location (except maybe Shan aka SupaR00 or some of the Ballarat people), but these guys are great. They do everything you could want from custom headers and turbo manifolds to basic bolt-on cat-back exhausts. All of my fabrication was done here for next to nothing by Lindsay (custom 3" dump pipe, 3" cat flanges, T4 flange welded to manifold, all for under $50 IIRC). They are extremely busy though as you would expect, but for price vs quality they are certainly up there.

I cant believe this thread is dead! I thought this'd be crawling with responses. Think it'd be great to see more input here cos I know that choosing places to go can be a pot luck type of thing so putting down the quality places I think would be extremely beneficial for the members of this site. So here's mine

NAME: DJS Auto Elec, Camberwell rd (near Toorak rd intersection)
Workmanship: 9/10
Turnaround Time: 8/10
Customer Service: 5/10
Cost: 4/10
Notes: The guy who runs this place looks like he hates the world but he knows his shit. Every thing thats gone wrong with my car electronically that I couldn't tackle myself, he's been able to fix in like an hour ($60/hour labour cost) My dad's taken his Merc there a few times too and same turnover time. Then yeah, the price is up there, I suppose but the job gets done real well. Their customer service is not the best and prices are high so I suppose it doesn't score that well but the work carried out is quality.

Notes: These guys don't give a fu*k if you're a tight arse modifier, they help you out where they can and give you advice for where they can't. Their workmanship was top notch, the tune came back a little dodgy the first time but they re-mapped the Unichip for free. They then made me new pipes and a cold air intake for chips just to help me out. The lady at reception is pathetic and replies to e-mails are a little vague, so that's why they got marked down for customer service.

The pricing is a little inconsistent but depending on how regularly you go there (I guess, because I went there a few times in a month they got a little cheaper) they tend to do you better deals. Put it this way, my tune was $400 initially (with a re-cal because it was suited to 5L) and then they charged me nothing for the next tune and made me new cooler pipes and stuff for only $330. Note; they did use parts from the old piping.

Oh and they NEVER kept the car longer than they had promised.

Great little tyre joint. Just very down to earth. No bullshit talked, will just do what you ask them to do, and do it well. Speak to Alan.
