$7-12k depending on how bad the damage is, what options, what year, what the damage has affected.

Holy crap, I saw an 07 XR6 with 28,000kms sell for 20k at auction.

That seems a bit rich for a wreck.

well i ahve had the v8 windsor in my xt. i got a 1uz v8 going into my 4runner. this time i want the wagon to have a different look. not the tuff muscle car look but something different. Kev suggested a EF\EL efi 6 to start of with and im liking the sounds of it as i can afford that. just would like a nice cooler behind the grill if i can.

Just keep an eye out for some of the rural auction houses, you might find they go a bit cheaper. The other option is get to know your wrecker and make a deal with them for all the bits you need for a penciled in price (depending inspection and condition) that way you dont have to fork out the whole ammount and dont have a wreck in your yard!

What about a 2uz, they are the diesel version of the 1uz aren't they? one of them turbo'd with a nice cam and away you go. V8 check, Turbo check, Cooler behind the grill check, being different CHECK. might be too expansive of an conversion though but it would definatly be interesting.

An EF/EL motor plus a decent aftermarket turbo setup will cost the same if not more than a DOHC turbo motor.

Snort kits with a 3540 are around $4k. Same with 6boost and ETM stuff.

Factory motor and ECU means more chance of getting it engineered too. Its an easy 300rwkw with the DOHC motor.

Well just put a 4L in it for now. They're worth fkall.

- Find E series donor car
- Engine mounts should be pretty similar, but at worst dummy some up and get someone to weld them
- Modify fuel tank for return line
- Replace fuel lines with something modern; use an external pump
- Wire up ECU & electrical witchcraft
- Fit a bigger radiator the original one is probably stuffed and too small
- Getting the E-series AC pump to mate up to one of those factory looking under-dash aircon units would be sweet
- Speedo- this will be a pain. Esp if you want to use an auto. Either use the original cable speedo (will need to weld a fitting on if you use the E-series auto, or adapt the original trans - getting the kickdown to work might be fun if its auto) OR you might be able to modify the dash with electronic internals
- Get exhaust made
- Probably will need the tailshaft shortened/modified - the XW uni's would probably go bang anyway
- Heaps of other bits and pieces that will no doubt crop up

Most of the work you would have to do would apply to any modern engine.

Would be a cool project if you kept it really original looking on the outside. If you go to all this trouble then put chrome 20z on it I'll hunt you for sport.

yeah call me old school but with something pre 75ish it has to be v8 i recon.
but in saying that if u can get a dohc motor in there and running thatd be pretty sweet.
and coolers behind the xy/w grilles look so good.
u barely see them as there is so much chrome in the front but when u notice them its like dam look at that lol.
u say u might just put an ef/l 4litre in for now and change later why not wait?
it says in ur sig long term project. ive got my xw here and im slowly getting parts together but am in no way in a rush for anything.
if u rush it and finish it then u wont have anything to do to it so ull end up selling it in my oppinion.
good luck with the project anyway man.

i dont want to rush it but the agreement at home was that the car comes home running so we can move it up and down when needed. as is the car has not been started in 15-20 odd years and im not sure it will and dont want to waste money fixing it as its a small 221.
reason for the EF\EL motor is because they are cheap to get and reliable. My plans for it is to have the old school exterior with a new heart and semi old school interior with a medium to large system. here is my break down plan so far (I know it wont be some ppls cup of tea but i want sometihng different this time):

ENGINE (At the moment seeming possible):
- 4litre EFI from a EF\EL (would like a tickford)
- full exhaust with twin pipes out the back like a 8
- EF\EL brakes (if possible)
- EF\EL Auto
- EF\EL Diff
- Lokka or Spool
- EF\EL Thermos

INTERIOR:
- standard freshened up interior (The dark red colour)
- front bench slightly modded for T bar floor shoft
- rear side ventians
- custom boot to accomodate for battery, 2 12inch subs minimum (may go 3 or 4) and tank if going bags and finish in a woodgrain look or red vinyl to match seats
- headunit mounting in glove box but stock unit still in original place

EXTERIOR:
- some sort of dark red duco with a white roof
- rolled gaurds
- chrome baseball cap style eye lids
- diamond cut headlights and white angel eyes
- modded tail lights with clear indicators
- front visor (if i can find one cheap as im not fussed)
- 3 x 2 5/8" gauges in chrome cups near wipers (depending on motor running)
- passenger door lock shaved
- radio antenna shaved

WHEELS (either):
- 15inch 100 spoke wires with a thick white wall
- 20inch 100 spoke wires with a thin white wall
- 17x7 front & 17x8 rear Street Show wheels with polished centres and white walls
- 18x7 front & 18x8 rear Street Show wheels with gunmetal centres and white walls
- 20x8.5 front & 20x9.5 rear Street Show wheels with genmetal centres and a white walls

SUSPENSION (either):
- 2.5inch blocks on the rear
- reset front springs
- rear rear springs
- rear bags with reset front springs
- bags all round

Mate if you get even half that in there it should be fkn mint.
I would run a sohc 4.0 to start with, will have plenty of balls for a nice streeter with a cam/exhaust and still be a very nice car to drive in traffic n shit.
>>> EF Futura Turbo <<<
Now rolling in a tuned turbo Forester as a daily

2uz is an iron block and 4.7l as apposed to all alloy 4l 1uz.

i reckon 2jz it man :)
even if you stuck with stock twins it would be tuff
front cut will set you back around $3k

but it'd be pretty cool with a later model SOHC falcon engine also
XG Panelvan
EF bottom end with ported EB head, valve springs, EL ECU & J3 chip, crane HI6 CDI & MSD coil, LC-1 wideband & SSI-4 logger

soon - .595" lift cam, GT4202, forged AU engine and built head, ems stinger 4424 ecu, powerglide with 5500 high stall etc - next, bellhousing

XH ute daily - DOHC BA XR6 engine, T5, AU3 ECU with TI J3 chip, ported BBM, 3" stainless intake - 12" sub, tub liner and hard lid - mass skids and epic tyre carrying capabilities :)

Iron = strong
4.7L is still smaller than a 302 in capacity.

I don't see why you don't just get an NA DOHC motor and get that running for now, then do turbo later? At least that way you'll have a better base for turbo and tuning than a shitty E-Series drive line? Normal NA DOHC motor's are not that expensive these days anyway. I'm sure you could pick up a decent one from a wrecker for around $500. I just think doing it that way will be worth the extra effort in the long run.
That, or 2JZ no shit! :P
