My ED XR6 and AU XR6

Postby hairy » November 11th, 2009, 2:22 pm

G'day guy i've been lurking around the forum for abit havin abit of a read and stuff and thought i might introduce my self.
My names Patrick and im from NSW i work in the automotive trade as a parts interpreter, ive got two XR6's and a big dirty transit van.

The ed is my daily driver, i picked it up about 4 months ago from a queensland. It was one owner and i found it hard to come by a black 5 speed to i pounced on it. Its got ssl's all around and a clarion DVD screen and a sony head unit nothing to exciting but serves me well.

My AU was my first car that i bought 5 years ago, the marjority of the car has been re-spayed and the body is pretty striaght. its got 20x8s all around with BA XR8 brakes calipers with drilled and slotted rotors all around to slow them down. Inside the seats have been retrimmed in white leather with xr embroided on the seats, the door cards, a piller trims and roof lining have all been trimmed to with all other remaining grey being painted to suit. i also modifyed the sunglass holder to fit a small screen. Underneith it all it has ssl's in the front and re-set and reverse eye leafs in the back, currently its about to go to probag to have the chassis notch completed so i can have suspension travel once again. In the motor department i lacks, it has a cold air kit on it with pacemakers and a 2.5'' exhaust, the engine bay is all detailed and is gloss red as apose to the matt finish they come from factory with and it has lots of shinny polished bits haha. The mod that im working on now is the boost side of things, ive just bought a T04Z for it and ive got a custom manifold being made up for it. Its going to be abit of a long term thing due to money constraints but i want to do it the right way the first time i guess.
Anyway i hope you enjoy my XR's

i know this, ive done a fair bit of homework on it this year but havnt have the funds for the wheels. But keep an eye out on the thread and i guarantee they will be on by this time next year. I've seen a local BA with 22x8's on the front already but ill be going for 22x8.5's because thats the smallest size in the wheels i want.

i thought notching the chassis was illegal? werent they clamping down on that with all the mini-trucks with notched chassis'... or maybe im barking up the wrong tree :/

but seriously. hot ute. Makes me wanna go buy one :good:

Hey mate both cars look in awesome condition! that ed was indeed a good buy and the ute looks tough as nice work
Been wasting a bit of time with the idea of 22's as well and yeah like you said it can definately be done, is the pic below that BA were talking about with the 22's?
I reckon if you can def make it stand out without it looking completely ridiculous then your on a winner, interested to see what your going to do with yours will keep an eye out for it!

thanks for the comments guys, the legal side of things with the notch im not sure but im sure ill be able to sort something. The notch i have for it is water cut and you will bearly be able to tell its notched due to it being one peice and it flows with the way the rails already go. ill throw some pics up over the weekend. and wagone thats not the ba im talking about but thats awesome, the one ive seen is from penrith ive spoken to the guys who fit the wheels up on it, dsnt seem like its going to be that much of a mission.. i just want the new wheels for it so i can put my 20s on the ed haha

So i had abit a project over the weekend and it was to fit the X'series blind to my ed. It was a really close fit we only needed to trim a little off it. Anyway here are some photos.. andd one of my van and my new while walls on my ute haha

andd here are my new walls, this photo gives you an idea of how low the ute is to and how tight the existing wheels are in the guards

andd the trusty motocross van
Image
By hairy161, shot with iPhone 3GS at 2009-11-29

The van is abit random i know but it was a project i bought about a year or so ago. I bought it with epic blow by and it wasnt running real flash i had the intention of trying to do a 3.8L conversion but it was going to be to hard due to there only being a small amount of room unlike the old transits that had a bigger engine bay. We pulled the motor down to find a piston with a huge hole in the side of it and the inlet manifold was shagged so we replaced all the bearing pistons and did a few other things to. It was abit of an expensive mission but it came together pretty well and it worked out cheaper than going to buy a new van for motocross. I've also put a timber laminate floor in the back which is pretty cool and we made a rack for the bikes.

thats where im up to with it at the moment, im going to build storage compartments over the wheel archs that will double as seats and im going to continue the laminate half way up the walls then black carpet the rest.. haha i have dramas i know but it will be cool. The bike rack is just behind the seats there, you put the front wheel between two legs that stick out and ive welded chain links to the bar and you tie the bike down to them. Heaps simple but works really well. there solid as a rock.

Small update on what im up to with the ute. Last night i bought an XR6 turbo motor and that along with the T04Z i recently aquired i plan to build a boosted motor for it. Not sure on exactly what im going to do with it but i guess we'll see how it all pans out... I just want big HP and some go fast to compliment its good looks

try and check out tuff tonneaus, they are located in bayswater, vic, but im pretty sure they post to anywhere.

and both ute & ED look mad...

the 20s wont go straight on the ED either, different offset, you will need spacers to make them fit correctly, and thereby make them illegal and unroadworthy to have on the car, not to mention size issues with most states running no more than 50mm (2in) bigger diameter and 25-30mm wider (approx 1in) unless you get an engineers cert...which are damned expensive
