My Champagne EF Fairmont - SOLD

Postby IDORI » December 2nd, 2009, 8:37 pm

Hi all!

Id Like to start a thread on my daily Driver..

My Car & Current Changes/Mods.
My daily driver is my EF Fairmont, I purchased stock from a car yard in morrabin about 1 year ago. it was bone stock but in VGC which is what i was after. My main objective was a family car "As i have a new little baby boy now" But due to my nature it had to look sweet too. i wanted a smooth clean look. with the tasteful mods you'd expect to see on the eseries fords so heres what i have done so far..

All in no real order

Exterior:
-First was to slam it as i needed a ladder to get in the boot, SL fronts + SL rears "Wanting Ultras for rear now but not sure once i load it up etc being a family car & for my little boy etc. it just doesnt sit flat atm with SL rears i think. i like the car a touch lower in the back. so SSL's to come. :banghead:

-Fitted Dark Agent's - Pre AU Charcoal 19"s.

-Now you could see my brakes. so i got RDA Full Drilled & slotted Rotors front & rear. & continued the gunmetal theme with painting the calipers etc heatproof Gunmetal Grey.

- Soruced a Brand new Fairlane horizontal grill & brand new center badge from ford. Looks mint

-Also the rear numberplate garnish which i paint striped the grey to be full chrome. "Now i also got new from ford the Center boot spear emblem Ghia symbol instead of the red F" so exterior has all the chrome bling shit i wanted.

- Then i fitted front corning lamps & hooked them up as functional driving lights, that operate from my original parker dial. can be on with just parkers or head lights or off "as normal" with a disable switch.

- I also got a pair of New headlights, " still getting new indicators as there condensation up lol"

- 20% window tint was the first thing.

Interior
- of course Stereo from previous daily's went in, 6.5"Splits all round, 15" Soundstream sub, high end kenwood fold out DVD player.& a custom parcel shelf with 2 center port holes & 1" speaker spacers trimmed under parcel shelf's carpet to give a moulded smooth raised effect.

- Then Chrome door handles fitted to my mocha frames. Then i sourced EL GHIA door trims, with cream leather inserts, Wood grain, badges & 4x door pockets. 4x door courtesy lights "wired up to the rest of the lamp circuits to operate normal" Then i fitted a Fairlane electric seat base, Also a Wood grain tbar surround, Chrome LTD Hbrake button,

Wood grain Spear for the dash above glovebox

I think thats about all of the top of my head that i have done to inside & out the car.

In the future things i will be searching for Id love the same s/wheel as my mate's sparkling burgundy EL GHIA, Seth who owned MINT8 He had a fairlane by tickford wheel A leather Mocha ELGT & with full wood grain. Man It makes me cream. so id love it!

Next is a nice mild exhaust dont care about any gains. just a mild note. a nice new twin 2.5" tip. straight & chrome with rolled ends. simple but elegant

Good shortened shocks all round.

EL mocha exteriour molds for the doors and bumpers. with chrome inserts. (i cant have enough chrome accents on my car lol )

& add a new ghia badge to the back in original position. as its just about there to be a ghia.

**********************************************

thanks for reading.

Paul

just leting you know that with the rear ultra lows they are a much thicker coil so they dont sag as bad with weight in the boot as supers do

Ah yeah? now thats sounds more appealing.. because "i have noticed that the supers loaded up, EG my work tool box sub and say a full tank "sits where i want it" but its quiet bouncy.. thicker coil may help with that too. how much lower are they? MM or Inch's.

Yeah true didnt see you there. was about the last time i seen him also.

Yeah its been a real hard decision man, Considering i built it from a bone stock poo brown mazda to that. And its 100% All my work as you know, So i feel like i cant put a price on it man! But i have and we'll see how we go.. But having a family now has changed my views man. A new project will be fun (different car and engine to modify my way) But i want to go down the avenue of these boosted 4.0lt's So i will. Your not wrong they love it! & yeah sweet cruisers/ daily's man no doubt thats why i got it. & family sized car

Yeah had the same issues car was not running for 09, but I will definately be entering 2010!!Was a pretty good match up I think we were talking and we had similiar power I think however the power to weight ratio came into play. We were catching up by the end of the quarter but it was already to late lol.

well i had 187rwkw ;) i think you had around 240? but yeah mate was a cool race, have you ran on the 1/4 before? full street trim (same as i was at nats, 205 tyres etc my PB is a 12.7 @ 113mph in it. 2.0 60ft. but that was all my old set up, dizzy etc fuel only ecu.

Its currently tuned with the new microtech & external gate but only on spring boost atm 1 bar 14psi so made same power. But gettin new gate springs from Paul at JPC & going back to chris for a retune on on 17-18psi on BP 98. Will have around the 220-230kw mark with . & as you mentioned with power to weight, ill hopefully reel out an 11. thats been my all time goal so will hopefully get to run it in the new year once its re tuned. then it hits the internet etc for sale! its a very quick street car. went great befor & now but im looking forward to another 30 odd kw. will make it that extra bit crazy on boost through the gears

Cheers. Paul

Bazza J - Thank you mate :drinks2: yeah im looking forward to it  ..

To give yous more of an idea what im after, Firstly i have no intentions for some power house... Or i would have kept my current project i wanted to go faster or make more power etc.. But its more about down sizing & combining what i want all into 1 car. & get as much enjoyment out of it as possible. & most importantly it has more then 2 usable seats. so others can enjoy it with me to say for a summer nights out for a cruise with my fiance & my little boy or have mates with me etc.. as the Rx7 lacked there. Eg The the thing is loud, things like a button clutch, race seats, in a harness, a locker, big fuel system so always stinking like petrol after a drive but thats a rota for ya. these are things that are great for its purpose on that car, But its also just every thing that i dont want to have with this project.

So i though why not have want i want all in 1, & have a smooth car, with comfort, classy look, a bit of get up an go (when i want) or i can return to my 4th gear lock up mode on cruise on the free way. driving like a normal i6 Fairmont almost. & i want to keep a good economy in mind when it gets tuned aslo. (not just about getting the maximum from what i got for power sake) To me it just seems so appealing, and thats what helped me with the decision to sell my pride and joy! well my fords my pride too so ill make it every thing i want it to be & should be realll happy. providing all goes well :good:

But anyway thats enough about me but you get the idea of the project i have in mind. & im really looking forward to getting it happening

Cheers.. Paul :good:

sounds like you made a very well thought out decision man.
can understand all of what your saying.
7psi should be good for 200-220rwkw or so with the right mods which is heaps for a cruiser lol
but knowing you and your brother i can see things getting a bit out of hand :P

Yeah man. its been on my mind since the family decision. my life changed with it all & its great. i wouldn't change it for the world! my son's every thing now & i just want to make the adjustments with my cars now. keep what i want but yeah just in the 1 car. enjoy it all that way

So i take it you have done the research a bit bill. i may need to rack your brain for some info in the new year once im ready. just the engine i want to be sure on. every thing else its sweet can do no worries. just which head gasket. & what other work i need to have it reliable with low boost. atm.

But your probable right, next will be forged block, 20psi, c10, transbrake, tyre shredder. lol nahh i so hope not! much control my self. Nope it will remain a (family crusier) :this:

Lol cheers bill :drinks2:

yeah man ive asked alot of silly questions and done alot of reading - as well as fixed alot of shit on my EB haha
going for something like a simple log manifold and something that runs less than 10 psi (anything over 10PSI and the stock ECU will cut fuel or spark, cant remember which one lol) will be easy to setup and will only need a 12:1 fuel reg and an upgraded intake fuel pump to cope.
with the J3 for tuning, many people on this site have done similar setups and got some great results with some good reliability.

you can also use stock head gasket and bolts until it blows, then just use an AU gasket cause they are MLS.
stock transmission will do the job and a resistor wired into the line pressure wire for the ECU will harden up shifts (and cost $6 haha!) alot and make the car much more fun to drive.

you've got a great setup in mind and already got an awesome base to start with, so you wont have any dramas.

Yeah cheers man, thanks for that. most of thats all of about what i gathered from the reading i have done. I think rather then the stock ecu path ill got for a more linier tune using a J3 & tuned by my current tuner. that way i can get it how i want it. & for the engines saftey will have the fuel there. so small injector upgrade ba's. & a intank 040 & good reg. + ill do the exhaust & turbo side no worries. & the oil drain + feed. no water through turbo! And ill do the head gasket for my piece of mind & its a slight decomp as there 1.5mm thick yeah? MLS this stands for? So the au gaskets the go. & au head-studs so i read. 6$ shift kit hey. is it variable or thats a permanent one? this i need. the auto's are too lazy standard to take boost. there lag or flair with change would burn the clutches if you were holding through on boost lol if the kit keeps it happy. id be happy to keep the auto standard just run a HD PRW trans cooler kit to keep it happy. & a new belly of dexIII & service.. (prpairing to do this even before the boost idea anyway) its over due for a service. but ill be happy doin that untill it needs some work (if a shift kits all they need for a mild setup.)

But the engine & turbo set up etc, there will be nothing spared or gone short on. Ill get and do what ever it needs. It has to be all done right from the go. that i learnt from my last project.

Can end up costing more if you go short the first time. :banghead:

Thanks man. sounds good

Put an oil cooler in will make the tranmission last a bit longer but an MV autos valve body would be a good idea.

A mate just ran a j-pipe, t3t4, cooler, 12:1 reg and 3" dump pipe and the standard auto lasted about 7,000km but that was with 2.93lsd, 235 and a fair bit of a caining

Also an intanke 023 seem to be better with the 12:1 regs

MTS stands for multi layer steal and also au gaskets are slightly thiner than standard head gasket but decompression isnt required for low boost aplications and is just wasting response and and power/torque and will be a lot smother onto boost making it gentler on the drive train and also will be fine for up to 14psi but if you must decompress it 2 au head gaskets will be more that enough for the set up you say you are after

but thats just my 2c

with the J3 chip its still using the standard ECU, and wont read boost over 10psi.
but yeah def needed to get the mixtures right.

the AU gasket as actually thinner than previous models so will raise comp slightly, but as your not looking at running much boost it should be fine.
the MLS stands for Multi Layer Steel and are heaps stronger
