It had 130K on it, factory manual, and was genuinely owned and driven by an old fella, in immac condition. All for 2 more grand. I blew my top lol so annoyed! My series one will have to do :P

would you realllllllllly miss the leather? surely when summer comes around leather aint so cool. Still looks shit hot, but also ends up shit hot lol

I've been tempted by the Ghias, wouldnt mind a V8 ghia. But i guess optioned up 5L ghias are rare as eh

What colour was the EL XR8? was it Regency Red by any chance?

Its more than just the leather I think. I've just always been into the luxo models over the sports ones. Whether it be a Calais over an SS or a G6E turbo over an F6.

The leather is OK in summer, the sheep skin seat covers on the other hand are pretty bad.

I do wish mine was a 5L. There are a few out there, but not like the fairlanes or LTD's where every 2nd one seems to be V8.

Do you have a showroom thread or anything for your car? Looks real neat in your little pic.

yeah i was like that, brought up in a Calais (albeit a VN), but it was always kept immac, looked somewhat classy, even though it was a VN lol Though it was dads, i got it, became a slight luxo-snob. but i do enjoy the simplicity of an XR8. wind up windows dont have electrical gremlins! Simplicity FTW!
The new-found love for simple cars was ruined when a family friend bought a White G6E Turbo. luxury + killer performance = ultimate car

thanks mate, but i dont have a thread on my car, i've done sfa to it, so not much point atm. Once i get my finnances organised and cars simplified (i.e. others sold) i'll start work on it and might do a thread. WOuld love to buy a shitbox for work & as a run about, and then take the XR8 off the road for a few months so i can build a half decent motor and tidy up the wiring. BUT, im lazy and i already have another "project" car, so i doubt it'll be happening lol

Agreed that the G6E Turbo=ultimate car. Perfect amount of toughness and luxury plus reasonable price. They are an Aussie bogan version of an M5 or AMG E-class'

A 5L VN Calais was something I considered before I bought my current car. Most were rubbish and needed alot of work so scrapped that idea and got something a little newer.
You make a valid point about power windows. My EF had two windows fall into the door. Chocked the back window up inside the door with a piece of fence. ha!

Whats your other project?

Most VN's are heaps of shit, im so lucky dad looked after ours, it looks pretty mint, most people like it. I was a bit scared to lower it from FE2 spec as i was that worried it'd **** it all up.
Mine has full electrics but the rear windows dont work :( but they didnt when dad had it and i'm a noob with electrics so never fixed them. Hence my annoyance at electric windows lol
I was damned tempted to put a 5L into it, i had enough in the bank for a decent 355, airbags, wheels (already had FR's on it) etc. BUT i lost my job, and slowly wasted my money on going out haha stupid! dont take 4 months off work... financially kills. Oh, and i bought the XR8 haha

The other project is a 1963 850 Mini, but we've got an ex-race 1430cc (thats bored & stroked basically to the max) will replace the cam for something less psychotic, cooper disc brakes, lightened doors, custom/adjustable solid/rose-jointed suspension. We thought about running a webber carby, but we'd need to cut a box into the bulkhead, and we just arent willing to **** up an otherwise unmolested original '63 850 so probably run twin SU's. Black roof with a proper red body (maybe even venom red), with black arches, wide rubber(6 inch... wide for a mini :P), Half cage, stripped interior, sheetmetal dash. The gearbox i think (not sure, it hasnt been touched in years) is short cut close ratio, so good for hillclimb/sprint car. But not 100% on the box yet, we'll get to that when we eventually get there lol could be a basic one which we'll build up.

i've had it since i was 13, and im now 22... Problem always was dad and i are novices and could get it to paint stage, but dad never had the money, and we never had painter mates. But it looks like we'll be getting the paint done by feb next year, so once thats done, there's alot of assembly lol I'm hoping we can pull it off!

Desire isn't driven by the heart, the mind or the wallet. Desire comes from another place. It's created by the smell of burnt fuel under full throttle and the look a car gives you when you're washing it alone at night...
