Wide rear wheels

Postby bushman » January 7th, 2010, 11:00 am

I was discussing with NUT347 about rear wheels and was saying that if i can afford it one day i'd like a set of 3 peice rims, and have them about 10-11in wide, and how i'd like to get a fitment similar to ROLLINS but maybe about 5mm further out of the gaurds than his, but while retaining an e series diff, i'm not that good with working out offsets and wheel crap like that, so i'm curious to know how much dish a set of rims like these would have and how wide could you actually make the wheel? i think 3in or 4in of dish wouldn't be out of the question!?

You would have to have something like a -40 offset, so 6-7 inches of dish

dunno how much room there is under the arches on a e series compared to a x series, i know the diff from disc to disc is the same, but this is a 15x10, and -27 offset, and theyre just past the guards

I think if you got the offset right you could fit 10.5 or 11s in there. Mine are +18 9.5 and there is plenty of room on the inside of the guard - even with a normal e-series diff there is about an inch between the edge of the driftek and the body.

I'd take a stab at something like a +38 offset 10.5 or a +30 11 with an e-series diff. I think....

good luck trying to work out the right offset though, that shit will drive ya nuts.

would a xy diff give you more room or is it the inner guards that hit first?

If you go + in your offset doesn't that take the wheel in towards the gaurd and - offset would bring creat lotsa diff. thats what i always thought anyway. with some good guard lipping and you might squeeze 11's in there but with mini tubs well that would be cool lol. BIG DISH = WIN

nah opposite way bruv, positive offset brings the rim centreline in towards the car, negative offset pushes it out.

the fronts look much less forgiving.
would depend alot on the springs that are in at the time, but would be intersting to know how wide ppl have gone

Yea, I recall driving behind rollin (nothing sus) and his car with au doff and 9.5" wide wheels looks spastic! I am happy with the se wheels with an
e-series diff (ps, I'm off taps)

On the front it's the upright that isn't forgiving, wide wheels hit that first before the guard or anything else is a problem.

What size 3 piece?

3 or 4 inches of dish is definitly not out of the question, especially with rims at 10 or 11" wide haha. Are we talking equal dish around the car or staggered fitment? Would definitly look insane from behind.

I've seen estimated 5 inches dish with 9.5's on the back of an E-series and they are probably just under flush with the guards, assuming 10 or 11's could achieve 7"s dish if they were to stick out from under the guards a bit. Just make sure they are a flat spoke wheel :P Hate it when people talk about their dished wheels when the spokes curve back out to the centre and end up flush with the outside of the rim, = not true dish imo.

11's with a 0 offset would have fitment almost identical to Rollin's ED and pack about 5.5-6" of dish.
