Not sure if this is a repost, sorry if it is. Just found it interesting, but I suppose inevitable.

It makes sense for Ford.

At least Falcon is going out being recognised as an excellent car. It would've been sad if it were to end after the AU days..

:(
Hopefully they can do some decent work still, maybe influence the mustang for the better or something.
I hope they can also get a decent rear wheel drive variant to replace falcons, that would be nice.

Time will tell

As far as I read, nothing was confirmed.

P.S someone start a FB group "Save Ford Falcon" or something, and then post a link to the group or name of the group to the article comments on Herald Sun  See how many members it gets.

Re: End of the Falcon

Postby Troutman » January 12th, 2010, 3:27 pm

Pretty terrible article... the actual quote is that "(Car makers) who make one vehicle, a different vehicle for one country, I think those days are gone", not "THE days of producing a home-grown Falcon for the Australian market are over". Misleading, dramatising and sensationalising. Holden would have died in the recent GM shakedown were it not for Australian taxpayer-funded incentives. The death warrant of the Falcon's six was reversed by another government bailout, and the same thing could happen here.

Pick up any '80s or '90s car magazine and there will be an article about Falcon being pensioned off in favour of a US import. In the case of Mitsubishi Australia, it is possible that the media pessimism regarding the Magna/380's future turned buyers away and effectively caused the death of the once-great Australian manufacturing icon.

My advice: don't buy into the media garbage until they come up with something factual. Nothing constructive comes of their vaguely-supported doomsday speculation.

Didnt Ford make the new platform so they can use it for Falcon/Mustang/Lincoln/Volvo or whatever else? I call BS.

Ford Aus will die if they dont make a RWD Falcon based car. Might have to call them Failcons instead.

Nothing to see here, just the annoucment of the global platform they have be fapping about for awhile now.

One would expect a RWD platform, and one would expect the falcon is used in one way or another concidering they have had an entire arm of their company doing nothing but develope a large RWD platform that works in a large selection of enviroments for the past 40 odd years.

Best news about this is that the next falcon should have that bitchin MyFord system.

This is why you listen to the Troutman:

The Ford Falcon sedan and ute and the Territory softroader are here to stay for at least the next five years -- and a decision on whether they will continue to be manufactured locally beyond 2015 won't be made for another 18 months.

    Postby huggiebear » January 14th, 2010, 8:17 am

quote from carsales website... all new turbo diesel 4cyl falcon.. i see another starfire here...

"We have worked very hard in the last 18 months to continue to improve and streamline our manufacturing operations. And have a range of updates coming over the next 18 months that will boost sales and therefore production."

In the middle of this year Ford Australia will introduce an all-new 5.0-litre V8 in the performance Falcon range and by the end of the year will introduce a liquid injection LPG six-cylinder Falcon.

Early next year Ford will introduce a heavily revised Territory which will coincide with the arrival of a new turbodiesel engine for the softroader, and in the second half of 2010, Ford will introduce the four-cylinder turbocharged Falcon.

At the show there was speculation that manufacturing of the Falcon and Territory models were timed to be phased out together in 2015 -- when both models would be due for replacement.

What seems likely is that, beyond 2015, Ford Australia may adopt an as yet unnamed global rear-drive and all-wheel-drive architecture for its large sedan and mid-sized softroader, and then tailor them to suit local tastes.

There has been speculation the Falcon could switch from rear-drive to front-drive because Ford's large car in North America, the Taurus, is front-drive. And Ford has not announced what its future plans are for its rear-drive cars: namely the Mustang and the Falcon.
