street justice for panel beater 'mate'?

Postby Phillis » February 3rd, 2010, 12:11 pm

as some of you may know, my car is currently at a panel beaters getting a new rear quater.

When i got the car 18 months ago it had some dents in the same rear quater thats currently getting replaced. i went to a panel beater, fernglen panels in ferntree gully, who had a mate of mine there as a 3rd year apprentice. i paid $500 for them to take the dents out of the panel and fix the rust in the dog leg. This was done.

2 months later, the rust was starting to appear again. I spoke to my mate (who i have known since the age of 13) and he said 'sorry, cant help you.' i then said im willing to pay again, and both him and his boss had little interest.

Now sheen, the company thats replacing the panel, took some photos of the copious amounts of bog that the previous repairer had put in. When i get home, ill post the photos in here.

My question: am i within my right to put sheens photos of the bogged up panel on facebook, tag my mate in them so that the quality of his work and his companys work is known?

Most likely your allowed. Just depends if you want to go down that path. I myself would be careful of what problems that could bring for yourself.

Facebook isnt the place to seek revenge on a company. Facebook is just for stalking hotties

regardless i think imgoing to call them up and tell them what was found once the panel was taken off.

This guy always changes his status to 'mat is bulding cars and sinkin beers, awsome life'. People percieve him as a dedicated, honest, hard working guy. I think it'd be cute for all our mutual friends to see that the term 'building' should read as 'bogging'.

i dont think facebook is the way to get the message across.
so many things get put on facebook and its not always the way to go about it.
i think it will cause way much more trouble than its worth.

i had my old car taken to a panel beater few doors up from work and they done a bit of work and resprayed half the car and it was dodgy and went to take it back and they didnt care then i got my step dad to come with me the day later and they business up and left. apparently they done so much didgy business they just done a runner. i paid $1900 and just had to suck it up even though i was p!ssed an couldnt get it re done. whatcan ya do just be very cautious and ask to see some work they have done so you can see what the outcome actually looks like

the friendship died a long time ago when he developed the 'too cool for school' attitude. The reason i went to his place was because i didnt know any other panel beaters and i was under the assumtion that a mate would do some good work.

Ill be calling the business tonight and ill simply tell them i am unhappy with the work they did. Theres no way they'll repair it for free. mat, my mate, makes himself out to be a hard working honest guy. For me to out him to all our friends about the work he really does will be enough of a cage rattle. I can accept the fact that a) my car has rust b)i was fuked over and c) i lost a mate out of it, so really, what have i got to loose?

As long as you gave them an honest chance to fix their work, I see no problem in shaming them for what they did. You might want to warn them you're going to do it.

ahh fark, my hands are tied.

Image

i spoke to the boss at my mates panel shop, and as bigger dick as he is, hes probably right. when the first repairs were done, he noticed the expanda foam in the dog leg. didnt touch it, but didnt tell me about it either. aparently they dont own the stuff. if the panel has been fixed badly in the past, it was done when the car was still in sydney.

ahhh im over this shit. im considering returning this thing to stock, buying another XR6 wagon and putting all the new shit in a straighter car.

expander foam looks factory... and probly is. you have full right to show/tell anyone about the workmanship of their shop. keeps the dodgy fuckers from making the rest of us look bad.

dude its an e series who cares as long as the panels are straight it doesnt matter.. the thing rolled off the showroom floor wonkey... its not gonna be perfect 20 years later... its a mass produced car... the more and more you want it perfect the more you realise there isnt a single car in the world which is 100% perfect without even the slightest hint of a flaw..

would i confront and expose woody? **** oath. Man, theres **** all left of our friendship. The moment he started playing in bands he became too cool for his old mates, you know that scotty. The douche bag uses the word 'gnarly' and 'badass' more times in one status update than i blink in a day.

Would i change alll my parts over to another xr wagon. If i found a straighter grey one with less kms and scratches and dents and NO rust, **** oath i would.

Bentls, i see where your coming from. the reason i bought this car, or a newER car than the vk i previously owned was because i didnt want to deal with all this shit...again.

Why don't you try a little panel beating on your "buddy"? Ive found this is far more affective then face-book. (Meh I lie, Ive never been on face book)

If you're a full-time automotive welder, why don't you get a new panel and do it yourself?

Second of all, is it really worth stressing and seeking revenge about a couple of dents or some rust on an E-Series?

I think its more the fact that he took it to someone to have it done right, they have a duty of care to advice the customer of complications or difficluties in completing repairs or otherwise.

i took my car to a panel beaters in which he made massive profit off the claim approved and then procceded to destroy over $3500 in car audio because they didnt remove any of the earths from the body when welding parts of the car. I approached the long time family friend and owner of the company, No answers or appoligies. After telling my friends of the dramas his business has suffered as no one will go there anymore to roll there gaurds let alone spray there cars.

it may or my not be the way to go but it looks like you only have somethin to gain i say go for it! :good:

funny that...clear is fading off my rear bar they resprayed after they dropped it

XRated- getting my own shit done at my work is like getting blood, shit, pus, ear wax and any other bodily fluid from a stone. and besides, i paid these guys money to do it properly, why should i have to do that kinda thing myself? im not set up to panel beat, im set up to weld rollcages onto chassis.

Sunny and Steady- yes, ive just found out that the foam is factory, much to my embarrasment. doesnt mean that the guy is still a sick and did a shithouse job on my car.
