Check this out -

XRENVI wrote:After driving with just the exhaust and intake done, overboost was a problem and we decided a computer mod was needed but with all things it didnt stop there!!! Vlave springs rods and fuel pump were added to the list. But there was something not right with a friends engine, who had simialr mods- he put a rod through his block which prompted a compression test on our engine. Look what we found.......All this from only have a 2nd CAI and exhaust system.

He says it was overboosting though.
I imagine hitting boost cut constantly wouldn't be good for them, I think its a fuel cut in these things.
My old mans used to do it before Ford reflashed it with an updated PCM, and it was harsh as ****.
You'd be planting up the freeway ramp and it would almost put your head through the windscreen.
It's like hitting the rev limiter, except hitting the rev limiter right where you are making peak torque.

Jared I've read another thread yesterday in which a guy had done similar mods to XR6T but hadn't had it tuned. It went in to a limp mode that would only allow it to rev to 4500 and it limited the boost constantly.

I don't know what you are describing? It was probably just fukked :)

It's still going now, not farked yet..

Sometimes, due to weather or whatever, or uphill, it'd built boost quicker then normal, spike, and hit the boost cut.
And it was harsh.
It never did the limp mode thing, dads is a MK1, they might have changed the boost cut later on, dunno.
My point was, if it did the same thing, and the driver kept hitting it, itd be like driving around hitting your rev limiter all the time.. do it enough, maybe bend rods?

Dunno, either way, no kent with say 220rwkw is gonna bend a rod driving normally and not noticing anything that could have caused it.
Like the thing pinging its arse off.
I call shenanigans on that blokes story.

You cant put an unrestrictive exhaust on the T's without a tune.

Once you free up the restriction behind the turbo the flapper valve cant keep up and it overboosts quicksticks.

More boost and no tuning = detonation.

I think whether or not the ECU shuts it all down before it breaks is a bit hit and miss.

So in short. E Series rods FTW.

Yep don't do exhausts mods on a XR6T if you aren't going to get a flash tune at the same time.

I think you can get away with removing the center muffler, but highflow cat is a no-no.

Fk I'd hate to be up for a rebuild on a XR6T.

So yeah I still have this thing.

In the last one and a half years since the last update I haven't really done anything with it. I remember Bomber put some Ultra lows in it not long after the last update. :drinks2: Then I went through a long period of working in a low paying job and having no money and/or motivation.

Anyway a couple of months ago I got a new job working in the city, which meant I was now using the train for my daily commute and the BA went into semi retirement. My girlfriend and I also finished buying furniture for our place, so now my attention and spare cash was directed towards the BA. The first thing was to make it look respectable again. Even though I've always kept it clean, some people may remember seeing it with busted R/H headlight and fog lights. I sourced some near new parts off eBay and fitted them. Much better. Around this time I also came across some cheap BF tail lights, yep I'll grab them too. Then I had a RDO one day and I was a bit bored so I paid a visit to Sunny at his work and he hooked me up with some slim line number plates. :-P (Too bad I was a bit late for XBA  )

A few weeks ago I popped some cystal vision globes in the headlights and got some blue visions for the fog lights too. They look good and night time visibility has improved out of sight!

Last week I had the opportunity to grab a BA F6 cooler and I had to think about it for while because I had some other ideas in mind. But then I figured when I get it tuned in the next couple of months I'll only be going for around 240ish kW at the wheels so I thought the slightly bigger cooler would compliment a mild tune nicely.

Image
Image
Image
A noticeable difference in size, but the F6 cooler still isn't huge by any means.

Image
Image

So that's where things sit now. Apart from an upcoming tune and lots of detailing, I wouldn't be expecting regular updates to this thread

p.s. If any mods are reading this, could you please move this to the showroom. It's not really a 'build' lol

The cooler goes alright. It makes the car feel marginally quicker, but what it's really good for is maintaining performance. With the little stock cooler after putting the foot down a few times you could feel the performance dropping off. I guess the F6 one keeps the air cooler for longer. ;)

BFs from 6/06 onwards got F6 bottom ends so I reckon one of them would be the best bet. Having said that, there's a BA with stock bottom end running 9s and few running 10s. I wouldn't hesitate getting another MK 1 BA, I reckon they're tough!

If you chucked them on a turntable you'd be able to vaguely make out the intro to Metalocalypse, they were that bad.

So this week I managed to pick up a set of genuine BA XR 18s for pretty cheap ;)

I'm a big fan of low BAs on factory Ford wheels. Like Dylan's car or Tristan's old ORSM54.
Image
Image

Eventually I want to lower it to roughly the same height as ORSM54 but even with just the SSLs in it, it doesn't even get out of my driveway without scraping :(

If I get bored later 'sarvo I might put them on the car, but the tyres are pretty shit so I might just hold off until I take it to get new tyres on my RDO next Monday week.

Thanks man! I definitely hear what you're saying.. I was never a big fan of these 18s because you usually see them covered in brake dust, on dirty standard height XRs with mudflaps. I'll probably store the 17s away in the shed because they still have 4 good tyres and are fairly mint.

Jack, I haven't been to a meet in ages but heaps of former E-series guys drive these now ;)

The 13.9 was achieved by stalling it as much as possible without spinning the wheels. It took a while to work out, I started the day with a 14.7 and whittled it down to the 13.9 Apparently I did a 13.8x too, but that's unconfirmed because I never saw that slip.
