Hundreds of revheads trashed a Bob Jane T-marts store and brought the Princes Highway in Oakleigh to a standstill for several hours in protest against the cancellation of the EasterNats race meet at Melbourne's Calder Park Raceway.

The police air wing was called in to monitor the crowds after flares were set off and people flooded into the street late on Friday night, The Herald-Sun newspaper says.

The commotion started after the EasterNats race meet at Calder Park Raceway was cancelled earlier this week, and the crowds on Friday night decided to vent their anger on the sponsor's store, on the corner of Princes Highway and Warrigal Road.

As the angry fans trashed the store, breaking windows and stealing car parts from inside, witnesses and bystanders were forced to take shelter in their cars and nearby restaurants.

"Within 10 minutes there were hundreds of high-powered cars," one witness told the paper. "It was like an organised protest and we were trapped in it."

A police spokeswoman said the riotous behaviour had started some point after 11pm (AEDT) and police were clearing the scene.

EasterNats promoter Jon Davison said Bob Jane had cancelled the event "as a result of our inability to finalise a satisfactory contract".

theres a huge difference between enjoying fast cars (even if at times irresponsibly) and rioting and causing malicious damage
its fucked that this all gets bundled up into one group (again, hoons) and we're all seen as one and the same, but i guess who can blame the general public, from what they see and know, we're all like that simply due to the high number of similar incidents in the media

Worst part about it though rumours going around say that its not even Bob Jane's fault he supposably requested Jon Davison to organise for more public toilets and a better emergency PA system to be installed due to such a large event and Davison declined.

Seriously I think bob jane and the victorian government really got the point. First thing monday morning I can see them scrambling to organise an event by easter. And that race track we have been wanting well that will be completed by the end of the year.(sarcasm)

I know everyone is a bit pissed off at the moment, but anyone who partisipated in last nights acts has just f@cked the victorian car scene. Good work guys.

we will never know the exact details behind the contract not going ahead, it wont be as simple as only 2 or 3 items, but i've read that the toilets and PA were part of the issue on another forum.
but obviously all details are not being released which is fair enough.
as is the case with the car scene sometimes, alot of the battles and roumors circle through forums, unless bob jane and Jon davison are logging into a few forums lol.

i think the bob jane shop was a bad coincidence (the location) as they probly would have held the protest there anyway as we all know people like to meet to shell and KFC anyway.
the business was certainly in the wrong place at the wrong time lol
