Thats the idea... I can't see Telstra and Taxis using Mondeos tho?
The Territory was meant to phase the Wagon out but never really affected it.
The Mondeo has more cargo space than a Commodore but just don't think it will work.

There will be alot of family and sales reps out there a bit gutted. I literally know 10 familys that buy 2-3 year old wagons (brand new they were too expensive) and love the shit outta them. Ford might lose some loyal customers.
On the plus side i could probably still flog mine to a taxi driver in a few years for good cash :)

Theres not much in the way of affordable alternatives, the commodore wagon while it looks nice, isn't exactly large.

This year isnt it? when the 4cyl falcon is released.

Sports/Commodore Wagons suck the new ones, its like having a sedan with an inch more space. Territory are the same.

Because it would probably take $250million to design, re-tool and test.
All for sales in a declining sector, not to mention snatch sales from the Falcon sedan, Territory and Mondeo....

Of the 10 familys i know that have Falcon wagons, NONE of them have purchased it new. They were way too overpriced, perhaps Ford effectivley tried to kill the wagon?
I'm pretty sure they will go second-hand Commodore or Territory as their next upgrade.

The main reson my mom only buys Ford Wagons as taxis, is for there rear space, and leaf sprung rear ends. She wont use commodores for that reason. And territorys are way to thirsty for a taxi. looks like she will have to settle for a coil sprung mondeo..... Usless car companeys.

my mum couldn't care less if it had IRS/Leaf springs/airbags, she wants the space the ford wagon has.
Terri isnt as long as the wagon so she can't carry the long canopy poles.
i doubt mondeo wagon would be long enough either.

Isnt it amusing, 20 years ago Both Ford and Holden couldn't justify proper utes.

with Utes missing from Holdens Range and only really becoming more mainstream with the VS, then skipping the VT and being introduced with the VX (VU).
Ford was the same, minimal investment after the XF, XG and XH are pretty painful compared to their sedan brothers. then being braught upto scratch with the AU.

Since then Both manufacturers have stayed ontop of the utes, MUCH more selection on both sides.

Dual Cab
RTV
300kw+ versions

it makes me ask the question, will ford regret the decision and bring it back as they did the Utes.

it will definately be interesting. they have 2 other decent options other than the falcon wagon with terry and mondeo, holden dont. however commo wagons seem to be selling well, but so do terrys, and i dont see too many of holdens attempt at a terry in the captiva around.

That wagon was based on the Audi wagon.

Everyone I know that has a Ford got it for the room in the back to actually put stuff in, not just cos it looks good. Terry's arent THAT big in the boot either :(

Wagons are cool, but fleets started looking away from the Falcon wagon, once the fleets went, so did the wagon. Holden's effort hasn't really won too many buyers as sense it release the have been a decline in sedan sales (From memory anyway), so Ford arn't exactly going to spend a heap on getting a new "sports wagon" to take one the VE. Its a shrinking market. In Ford's eyes, private buyers who wanted a wagon buy a terri, and what fleets are left can settle for the Ute/territory/Ranger models.

Sad but.

Who told you that gem?

Ford is spending a fair bit to do I4T, LiLPG, and a new V8 for Falcon. Seems to me like it isn't dead? There just wasn't the time nor inclination to do another falcon wagon, considering the cost to update it and the amount of money it would have made (i.e. none). They got a fair run out of the AU/BA style.

They whinged about how they were only a fleet car and there was no private buyer market for wagons but still you couldnt even option them with 17" alloys from factory!
Ford should have bit the bullet when holden were selling sportwagons and release a hundred or so limtied edition falcon wagons, target them at the private buyers and odd higer position company rep and auctually see if there was a wagon market out there other than just a glorified sedan hatch sportswagon or bog stock XT!
But even still this would have not been an easy task as the rear end was still carryover from a 12 yr old AU!........No wonder why fleets started moving away from them as they looked pretty much the same as what they were just upgrading from!

From the C pillar forward they are the exact same as a sedan but just longer, how hard would it have been to drop the 4wd ride height, pick up one of the many rim designs and then use the interior, engine, front bumper lights ect from a XR6 turbo with only a few minor changes on the exact same production line and see how it goes?
If it can be done in backyards then surely theres enough resources and already on the shelf parts at the factory to at least make some sort of effort
I find it hard to believe that there arnt family or company reps who still require the load space of a proper wagon for work and weekly needs while at the same time not being embarressed with its work looks and pleb styling when driving it out on the weekend or away on holidays?

Re-development would have no doubt been extremely costly excercise and maybe not viable at this point in time but theres no reason why it couldnt have been put on hold for now instead of being completely axed!
At least this way it would be forgotten about for a short time then when funds permit and theyre ready for the go ahead announce its back!...... it would still only be a wagon but the amount of build up, publicity, speculation and media attention ect that it would receive before its even re-released!........man the thing would practically advertised itself for fcuk sake! instead of ford looking like fools and bringing it out of retirement if it ever comes to that.

At the same time the territory being a good all rounder and still selling well even without the introduction of new diesel engine is already at the end of the day a 6yr old body!
You have to ask yourself how much longer can you keep on selling it for when only changing the grill, bumpers, lights, wheels ect before people get bored and that too needs re-developing?
Id be interested to see what the territory is selling like in another 6 years if they do decide to keep this same shape?

For now tho i honestly think ford are kidding themselves if they expect the mondeo is going to fill the boots of the falcon wagon, telstra have pretty much ditched ford and are currently looking at moving into offshore manufactured cars for their entire fleet......isnt that saying something already?
No matter how cool they are, how well built or how well they are selling in the UK i just dont think a front wheel drive 4 cylinder mondeo is going to adapt out here, you would be better of saving your money and looking at a Mazda 6 diesel, classic or touring wagon.
They have no one else to blame but themselves for having to kill off the wagon, there was still a lot more interest in them than the fairlanes and ltd's which imo were a much better car than a statesman or caprice but unforntunantly were just not selling or worth holding onto.
I guess now with their latest throw in the bin too hard attitude we'll never know if a new wagon could have been a hit, but i reckon something that looks like this would have grabbed a fair bit of attention and some good publicity!

I have said previously that i believe the killing-off was deliberate or perhaps a direction from the U.S.A.??
As far as Fairlane/LTD being better than Statesman/Caprice, i wish i thought the same as you. I have always thought Holden have done twice as well with their LWB range. Always looked better with superior interiors.

I believe the Territory is getting a facelift this year sometime, perhaps to co-incide with the Diesel??

Family has had a WH statesman then a WK caprice they were both amazing cars but i guess you get used to what you already have and take notice of the opposite? only an opinion anyway, but with the territory......
nothin suss wrote:I believe the Territory is getting a facelift this year sometime, perhaps to co-incide with the Diesel??

does this mean its getting a facelift as in going from SX to SY (minor changes) or more like something such as AU to BA? (same car but way different looks)??? also how long do ou reckon before it changes body like when falcon went from BF to FG?
Eitherway will be intersted to see what new model looks like and how well it goes with diesel ect.

[quote="EFFalcon"]and about 6" longer, as a wagon should be quote]

True......has the girth but needs more length!
