Holden are romping it in with their wagon - every model available as a sedan can be had in a wagon! Thats the way it should be!

Holden should stop selling sedan's and just offer sports wagons.

what benefit does a sedan have over the sportswagon?

One has to respect the fact that Ford put a genuinely tremendous effort to get the FG range right, even if it meant no funds were left over to prevent the Fairlane and wagon (and dare I say the V8) from dying miserable deaths. I think the Territory has very much had its day but will struggle for a long-term business case when the market is very strongly heading towards smaller electrified vehicles. I hope they do not waste too much money finding this out the hard way.

I do think Holden's current model line-up is a dog's dinner compared to Ford's, however it's hard to call the best selling car of several years 'down the gurgler'. I believe Holden's future plan involves ethanol compatibility, which will supposedly reach fruition this year. The survival of the local makers will depend on their ability to avoid being viewed as dinosaurs alongside the forthcoming generation of Chevy/Holden Volts et al, and that will mean much innovation compared to the current approach of tiny incremental improvements in fuel economy.

I meant GM global. Holden Australia probably does okay financially like Ford, but their US mates are struggling. Holden Australia must spend some crazy cash on a huge variety of commodore variants tho. The develoment, testing and tooling bills must be huge.

GM is still under the wing of the US taxpayer (admittedly Holden wouldn't last long without Australian taxpayers either) so should establish a longer term business case. The formerly dominant Toyota's recent woes will help GM's cause somewhat, but time will tell. It's a race to the bottom.

I do like the FG's line-up being all 'Falcon' without all the different names for the same car (Futura/Fairmont/Ghia/etc) and a bare minimum of variants these days too... I hope Holden does the same one day. It's like comparing the iPhone to the millions of competing Nokia products that nobody can remember the name of... marketing is about simplicity for the masses as much as it is about the capabilities of the product.
