Funny you say that, I have a feeling you may be right. I dunno, but it feels kind of heavier now, not as smooth off the line as it did before we dropped it. Maybe its just me, I must be paranoid or something! Bah, sif it makes a difference!

Anyway, someone hook me up with the grandpa spec accessories!! Black venitians would be awesome! Then I can get a straw hat and one of those I <3 Lawn Bowls stickers!

I know mate. When I first got this thing I did an entire weekend of freeway driving and got 730kms to that tank. I got from Reservoir to the outskirts of Sydney on one tank in my old AU as well. That was 5 speed with a cam and full exhaust and tune, AC on and all.

Edit: Haha, just found this in the first post of this thread:

Re: EL Grandpa machine - now with more T5!

Postby ClassicAU » April 19th, 2010, 1:33 pm

So, had a big Saturday with the car, that resulted in it now being 5 speed manual!! Spent the day over at Kev's Performance Warehouse, and am now a happy chappy with more clutch pedal! Scored myself the complete T5 kit out of the wrecked green ED XR6 that Kev had, plus some new EL parts like clutch cable and bushes and all that. She goes good now for a stocker!! Pegs hard now, doesn't it Kev! The T5 itself is in pretty decent nick too for an ED, so should last me a fair while if I am half nice to it.
Also managed to talk Kev into relinquishing a set of FTR's off one of his cars too! Looks mint as now, I have always loved these wheels! Don't have any pics, cos I don't have a camera. I'll get some soon as I can flog a camera off someone.
Didn't get a chance to do anything else to the front suspension, so it still has westie lean going. Did some calling around, and it looks like the culprit is the V8 SL's I am using. Need to get myself a pair of I6 springs to bring it down a bit more.

When someone gives me one for free!! :P Not happening anytime soon, I've had enough fail already. My trip to America has been moved up to July/August, so no more major items for this car till at least the end of the year now! Want to get the suspension sorted and the LSD fitted, and that'll do me for a while.

Yeah Michael, stock Ford replacement clutch. It was out of the ED I believe, so should be XR6 spec at least. It looked like it had a fair bit of meat on it though, should see me through fine till the end of the year I hope. Just got to be nice to it! If I was to replace it, I would just get a PBR XR spec anyway, as it felt nice in my AU before the boost.

Hahaha dude, don't you mean no springs at all! That's awesome though, thanks heaps, saves me having to hunt around! I guess next time I'm down at Kev's we could try either. I am hoping the 6 cylander SL's should drop it down enough to be level with the back. If not, we can chuck the ultras in. NO CHOPS!! :P

I did remember you said that Pete, and that is what I was going to do initially. The thing is, I rang around like 3 or 4 different places looking for prices, including a couple of Pedders dealers, and they all told me that is incorrect. Apparently Pedders don't even make a short shock for the front of Falcons at all! They said that the standard height shock on the front still works even with Ultra Low springs. The back is different, and requires short body shock, but the front does not. They all told me it was the springs that hold the car up at the front, and I need to change them.

Yeah, we will see how long the manual lasts hey. Was told it was in good nick, but people say a lot of things. No LSD fitted yet, just trying to find the next person to bend me over in the least painful way.
The car went in for a balance and alignment today, and turns out I have a buckled rim and four fvcked tyres. Serves me right for getting all excited letting myself get taken, yet again. I need a new fvcken hobby!

All sorted! :) I guess sometimes it does pay to just talk it out! Looks like it was just a misunderstanding, should hopefully all work out in the end.

Thanks Dez, she is going well so far. Other than this little hickup with the wheels, she runs sweet. Even had positive comments this afternoon about how tight the T5 feels! I guess I have to be nice to this one to keep it that way! It feels good to me, even if its not actually any quicker, it certainly feels like it! :P

This thing is still going well, still getting decent economy out of it. Minimum 500kms to a tank now, she is running sweet. Manual has made it more fun now, just needs LSD.
Anyway, had the afternoon off today, so got bored and took a few pics down at the local park.

Ha, sif! I suck at skids anyway!! Your LSD is still sitting in the garage Kris. It is going to have to wait a couple more months now, as I have already purchased my flights to America! I'm going over with my best mate and his wife, and will be there for the 4th of Joooolaaaaii celebrations! Leave on the 1st and come back on the 18th. So all major car related expences have to wait till at least August. However, I have started an awesome new job today, full time perm, so hopefully wont have to wait too long.

Looks great, already quite different from when you got it. The EF Tails look much nicer. How much of a difference did you notice when the T5 went in? Whats your final verdict on the J3? I have an EL manual and I'm contemplating getting one done.

SLO247 wrote:Looks great, already quite different from when you got it. The EF Tails look much nicer. How much of a difference did you notice when the T5 went in? Whats your final verdict on the J3? I have an EL manual and I'm contemplating getting one done.

Thanks mate, nicked the EF lights of a mates mont after he stacked it, suits the light colour much better I recon. I have always thought a manual feels quicker than an auto, even if it actually isnt. It just feels more lively, and the extra control is always nice. As for the J3, its the shiznit!! I am more than happy with it! I havent gotten less than 500kms to a tank since it went on, and there is also a tiny boost in power to boot! Don't think about it, just do it! For the money, its easily worth it.

Oh, as for that ghastly gear knob, I know Tim! Find me a better one that fits and I'll change it in a second! I had one, but the thread was too small to fit on the stick. I thought it was an EL knob, but may have been AU. I believe the stick is stock ED, what fits on that? I hate this one!

nice stance, colour is a big plus

dunno what would look better, a LTD front, or XR conversion

re: gearstick, unbolt it and get someone to chop 30mm from the middle and weld back together. Weld can be messy as its hidden by the boot

I didn't mean the gear knob, I meant the length of the truck shifter you have :P

Haha, yeah, that sucks too. I swear I almost punch my CD player everytime I select 3rd gear!! I'll do something about it eventually, maybe just see if I can buy a ready made short one.

As for the front end, if I were to do anything, I would do EL Ghia conversion. I dont think the colour would suit XR. I cbf either way, seeing as I have to change the bloody bonnet and bumper, which means respray. I wish it was as easy as the AU, just a grill change!

I reckon it would look great with an XR front. I'd like to put one on mine but paying stupid money for them FTL. Is the car Mocha Foam in colour? Paint code is A6, will be on the build plate under the bonnet.

What economy were you getting before? I was expecting a manual to be better than an auto. How noticeable is a "tiny" boost in power?

Don't know the paint code, will have to check and get back to you.

Unfortunately I don't know a before and after with the J3, as I got it when it was auto. I did feel a slight power increase then, but the auto sapped most of it anyway. As for the economy, I was getting around 400 stock, 450 auto and J3 and now 500 manual and J3. The highway economy is epic, with a best of 700 so far! I have not dyno'd the thing, so have no idea on power figures though.

I'm going to ask one more stupid question :D

How much was the J3 with the tune on it? From Galapogos on here? And you are running 98 now?

Car looks great anyway, good shit. 90% sure its Mocha Foam, changes colours a bit in different light, one of my favourite EF/L colours.

Yep, got the chip directly from Jason, charged me $200 for the chip plus a custom tune for 98 ron fuel. Yes its a bit more expensive to run, but I doubt I would be getting this good economy out of regular crap.

OK, just checked under the hood at the build plate. Its a May 98 build with paint code W6, whatever that is! Could be an AU colour? Trim code G1, grey interior, which I prefer. Thanks anyway mate, turned out ok for a grandpa car!
