Roadside speed cameras

Postby rhys » May 4th, 2010, 7:18 pm

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but there seems to have been a large increase in roadside speed cameras in my area (near knox shopping centre).

Are these privately run or are they actually police vehicles because they seem to be on a whole range of different cars.

On my way home from work I saw 2 speed cameras in about 2 kms.

There was a white commodore wagon on dorset road between boronia rd and burwood highway and a grey (hard to tell at night) mazda tribute on ferntree gully road between burwood highway and scoresby road.

That same commodore wagon (or an identical one) was on Burwood highway on the left when traveling towards the city just after stud road two nights ago. Not to mention I have seen it on scoresby road almost every second week for this entire year.

So whats the go? Is it a private company looking to increase their commission? Is the government looking to increase speeding fine revenue before the end of the financial year? or do these sorts of operations migrate from area to area?

Has anyone else noticed this increase? Im just hoping this is like 'operation pipedown' which is only planned to hit hard over a couple of weeks then drop off again.

Note: if their parked on a nature strip or side of a highway and you get flashed, stop pull over and take a photo, they cant legally park on a nature strip or stop on a highway for a long period of time. its gotten me out of a few fines. Even if your wrong and they are legally parked, stop and take a few photos make sure you get one of the numberplate too, the Camera bloke will just simply delete the photo its not worth the trouble for him, and he wont exit the car either.

LOL, there is a position available over my side of town in Epping!! I wonder if they pay danger money for a job like that? Would have to, if someone found out where you live!

They dont pay commissions? sucks for them then.

Too right they shouldnt get paid much. All they do is park a car and sit and listen to the radio. Sometimes they arent even in there.
