EB with BA headlights and 1971 XJ6 grille... do I do it?

Postby justlikemusic » May 15th, 2010, 5:21 pm

Well I have cable tied the grille up there wondering if I should make it fit, and then perhaps some form of custom chrome bumper. I have to find out the legalities of modifications to the actual bumper itself because the grille won't fit in front of it and will look horrible. I am sure I can get around this with a metal bumper that's custom made.

I really don't want edge protection on the doors and to weld a piece of metal there blending the whole side of the door to get a newer car look. Rear bumper would be another project altogether...

The BA lights might work.

But that grill will look so damn stupid IMO, if I saw it driving past me i'd probably have a laugh.

Grill, well, put it this way. Sticking a fork into a power point is smarter.

I had it sitting in the shed from my 302 C4 71 XJ6... thought I'd chuck it on to see what it looked like. Makes it look like a totally different car which I thought would be good and unique. Also opens up alot of the front section for better ventilation. Plus I have gone from a BMW 5 series to an EB falcon... I am happy with trading a fag badge for sleeper muscle, however I wanted some bling to a certain degree....

I am still going with my 15" LCD screen in the dash and core2 in the boot =P Wedged somewhere next to the 5ft3 boxed DD3515 goodness.

I just hated the stock bumpers, and don't want to go spending $500 on a pair of new bumpers. I pulled them off and I'll save some paint for new bumpers later and just spray the ones I have.

Look through and find some front bars that you may like ,. THere are plenty of kits around that u can use.
As for the 15 inch screen best of luck getting it to fit properly .
There is actually no real room to put something that big unless u litlerally rip to shreds the whole dash and make a new one .

I'll assume you don't have the skills to make it work, but if the surrounding panel/fab work was done to a very high standard, and the grill was "frenched" in far enough (I mean recessed), I think it could look good. Don't try it though, the chances of pulling it off are 0.0001%... it would be easy to get it so so so wrong.

If I cut the top of the centre console it recesses back in under the vents perfectly. It's a HP 15" LCD and silver in colour. I won't even both shrouding the sides and it will look mint. I have had 15" screens in a 1971 Mercedes w/ 202, Festiva, BMW E39 (as pictured) and now the falcon. Everything else it stuck out, but was mounted fine... the Falcon it is just about perfect. No knocking it accidentally like the bimmer. The festiva it was up in the air basically being able to be seen miles away, and the Merc was bench seats so it sat really nicely under the dash.

I also have 3G USB and wireless IP camera which will live stream to my home computer for anyone who wants to try to break into it =) Few other goodies too... maybe a fax and pager? ha

I have all the wires already run and the falcon gets painted tomorrow titanium silver metallic. Exhaust and bits and pieces done on Friday and screen and pc reinstall on Friday night.

LTDHO I bought another spare 2L of paint so I can get another bumper and bonnet and do it. I will also weld the tail light and garnish area flat and put quad ferrari style tail lights in it.

oneredED - The grille wouldn't have to be recessed, just shrouded. It sits perfectly between the headlights which surprised me. Looks like a VN commodore though with that grille... but it's good having something totally custom. I'll wait till I can afford to be picked on by police though when I do that.

Yes... it made baby Jesus cry... very much.

You and your jag grill goodness and Shonkisonic 15" monitor has got me thinking. :D

I have a Sharp 21" Monitor (exactly the same as the one pictured below) sitting in my garage not being used... I might recess it into one of my headrests.

I was also thinking of doing a twinlight and grill conversion exactly the same as the car pictured below. My $250 EF pov pack would really be pimpin' after that! :good:

haha josh... The AU looks pig ugly. =/

I sprayed the car titanium silver today, put ba headlights on... just gotta get the orange peel down and put some pics up tomorrow in my build thread. Yea, I kept it straight. Low_xr, ur silver eb gave me a bit of inspiration in my build.. i got a fairmont interior/dash, with rear garnish and el mirrors/handles, ba headlights. Should look nice and straight. Just youtubing spraypainting techniques gave me too many ideas after coming across nagas wit krome grillz an kandy paint

and yes im off the idea of this chrome fanny patch now. lol

I'm looking for ideas for my lady's EB that we just bought. I was looking at BA headlight convesion too. Not bad looking. For the record, VY Commodore headlights fit the gap much better. Also, a question. Do EL doorhandles fit EB or is modification needed?

Hi March Hare, welcome to the site. There are endless threads on the things you ask... mods please lock this thread if you read this, the grille is gay.

EL everything fits the EB. My build thread has a pic of my 91 EB Fairmont and 97 EL handles. (and mirrors, engine, gearbox, interior for that matter)

Oh well. Each to their own, as they say around here. If you want to be unique, you have to try these things. Who knows, not everyone will dislike it.

I can imagine someone trying to make an E-Series look like a 300c and then selling it for 30 grand.
