Thanks for the info.

W6 is Amaretto, an AU colour. Quite similar to Mocha Foam. Being a May 98, it would have to be one of the last ELs too.

So, true to Ev form, this car may be coming up for sale soon. Just started a new job, and wouldnt mind a nicer looking car to go with it. There are a couple for sale at the moment of what I am after. So yeah, if anyone is interested, holla at a brother and we can talk turkey!

I wanted something a bit newer looking, but loans for cars FTL. I think I might just stick with this one. It will be much cheaper to fix it so it looks a bit more respectible. I am going to do the suspension properly so it is actually driveable! I just found out that I now have a hole in my main muffler because of all the speed humps and shit its been draging on! Might just raise it up to XR height or something so it still handles, but so I can actually drive it places.

I know mate, they are sick. I was going to get a loan for another car, but its really not the best idea. I was looking at another AUII/III XR8 or a BA Ghia 3V. I just cant bring myself to getting into debt for one though. Which is why it would be better just to fix this shit box up a bit better, and stick with it for a while longer. Typical Ev rash decisions, then changing my mind like the wind!!

Thanks guys, you are completely on the money there, sorry Kris! There is no way in hell I am doing anything to this car to make it faster, I said that from the start. I just want to fix the suspension so its actually driveable, and be done with it. Once I am settled into this new job, and hopefully have a bit more cash then I will look at getting something decent again.

Ev, I just had a quick look at your car (pics previous page)... unless this EL has a P-plater exhaust or Uncle Buck-spec backfiring & smoke or some other serious issues, it appears perfectly respectable as a professional's car. Stick with the EL dude: keep it clean/respectable, & save money.

If my EF was a Futura (abs, passenger airbag, etc) & wasn't banger-spec I wouldn't have upgraded to the BF.

Thanks Dave, you were my inspiration to think about a nicer looking car!! Although you are right, my EL is in slightly cleaner condition than your EF was!

Unfortunately, as it sits now, its too impractical. Also, I have actually had guys from my old work laugh at me for how low the car is now, which is another reason why I wanted a change.
Also, I now need a new exhaust thanks to the leb spec ride, as it’s got a hole in it. I am trying to decide if I just chuck an off the shelf 2.5” on it, or try and find a new stock system. I don’t want it to be too loud, but a note would also be nice!

I wish I could afford an FG, they are sweet! Even just a bog stock NA XR6 would do me fine. But as was said, car loan FTL. Hopefully once I sort this car out again it will last me the rest of the year at least, then I will see what is happening.

Thanks Pete, it is decent enough not to just flog it away. An EL Ghia is really not that much of an upgrade. I would rather make this look like one!

Dave is right, and that is what I have decided to do. Just waiting to see how much of an arse rape I am up for to get proper suspension. In the mean time, I don't think my new custom exhaust is really affecting anything on the car, and I can hardly hear it with the windows up.

So, just trying to get a few quotes for suspension for this thing. I want to do it a bit better this time around, and buy some half decent stuff too. One suggestion I have been given is to get Lovells springs and KYB shocks. I had Pedders in my AU originally, and that was good, but not sure if I can do better for around the same money. What are peoples suggestions on brands/type I should be looking at?

I've got some Whiteline control springs and KYB shocks with about 10,000km for sale if you want them

Went pretty good in my old EL, I reccomend.

Lies!! Of all the quotes that I have gotten so far, Pedders are the most expensive!! Best quote I have had from a suspension place was for Kings Sports Low springs and Ultima gas shocks. Although I wouldnt mind avoiding Kings, and I know nothing about Ultima.

With Pedders, I've found they can vary greatly branch to branch. Frankston are generally very good on pricing, especially if you tell them you're a fordmods member

No need. Will be picking up Adam's kit tomorrow night. I was thinking about it, and I figured there is no point spending all this kesh on awesome suspension, when the rest of the car is fvcked anyway! Tyres suck and are gone, diff is screwed, and I think the clutch is already on the way out! Plus there is heaps of whining noise coming from the gearbox, particularly 2nd and 3rd. So that’s probably going to let go sooner than later now too. The only good thing left about this car is the motor and the paint. Although I should probably wash it more often than once a month! Typical Ev stylez, find a nice car and destroy it!

Hahaha, not having a cry Dave, just trying to think about it logically for once. I just need to treat this car for its intended purpose, and that is daily transport that is better than walking!
I need to stick to learning from my first mistake with the AU, and that is not trying to make a car into something it wasn’t built for. If I want a car to handle and go, I will buy one that was intended for that in the first place. In the mean time, I don’t have the money for that now, so will just stick with this thing.

Tyres are cheap. Diffs are cheap. Clutch is probably on its way out from doing a ronnie-rollback & getting all kinds of smoke happening before realising the wheels weren't spinning

You know what, sadly, I agree with all that has been said. Buying someone elses mistake FTW!! I'll just wait until something decent comes up, which always happens. Purpose built cars FTW also. I don't have bottomless pockets like some of you around here seem to.

I honestly think sometimes you're expecting a bit too much quality out of old banger sh1theaps, which all A & E series are!

Don't get me wrong, I clearly like E-series or I wouldn't keep driving/modding them, but you have to accept the limitations they bring as well as the compromises that most mods do inevitably cause.

On top of that, indecisiveness costs wasted money - it's always best to create a plan and stick to it.
