You know Dez, that's exactly what I thought too, yet it did happen! For example, reversing into my driveway the diff used to hit, now it doesnt! Fvcked if I know the mechanics of how it works, but it just does! The exhaust was the worst, until it crushed itself so much its now folded up under there! :P
Got a couple of quick quotes from a couple of local exhaust joints. Looks like I am up for $150 for fitting plus adding a rear muffler to the system. I was even considering the other option of just deleting the crushed muffler from the stock system, seeing as its still fairly new, and there is bloody three under there anyway! Not sure if that would work or not.

The one in the middle dude, under the rear drivers side door. It has one just after the cat, and another une tucked up behind the rear bar. Would it work ok if I just deleted the stuffed one and replaced it with straight pipe? Mtaching size of course.

Yeah, but is it going to be as loud as the 2.5" Lukey I have, even with a second muffler added? I can imagine the 2.25 stock would be quieter with the middle muffler removed right?

Meh, I'll just chuck the Lukey on with a rear muffler. The AU sounded good manual with a similar exhaust, so should be ok.

Thanks heaps Adam, I am wrapped with it so far. As for sway bars, I think I would rather get some tyres with actual tred on them first to improve handling! :P

Yeah, well, the bitching just comes with owning an e-series! Unfortunately it’s not going to stop until I have a better car! :P

So to continue the pattern! Fitted the 2.5” Lukey cat back system on the weekend, and its LOUD! Sounds kinda tough on idle, and cracks a bit when I give it a kick, but just sounds hollow when I get up it in gear. So I have organized to get a second rear muffler fitted to it on Sat. Hopefully it shuts it up a bit, and gets rid of the drone.
That will be the last addition for the next month or so, until after I get back from America. Then it will be tyres, and hopefully LSD if I have the spare cash.

after changing exhausts on my car recently, i can understand the want for a more quiet exhaust.
i reckon a single muffler system is just too much in n/a form!
put a turbo on it, that will quiet things a bit lol

Booked in around the corner from my place in Hoppers Josh, at a place called Blitz. Seemed reasonable enough, and the place looks busy. Shouldn’t be a hard job, I don’t see how it could possibly get stuffed up.

Its funny, cos when speaking to the guy, he said that I was actually better off changing the system all together than deleting the stock muffler. Apparently that would have been louder than what I have now! No idea how that works, seeing as it had two other smaller mufflers and was smaller pipe? Whatever, it’s done now. You are right though, single muffler is too much for a stocker.
Ha, I wish I could, but no. Not this car, no point. Next car will be V8 and manual, and NA will be enough for me.

Lol not a chance! Fella I know had his stock system chopped, removed the first 2 mufflers and just left the one after the diff, why I dont know, but it was still quieter than most aftermarket systems, and sounded fkn average to say the least.

Haha, it was in dire need of a bath that day Shaun!! I couldn't stand looking at it like that, so spent like $12 at the local car wash and cleaned it up that afternoon. Looks much better now, just don’t have a camera, hence no photos. I have been meaning to take some since the new suspension though.

You're probably right, nothing is ever good enough for me! :P As for the stock exhaust, I am just going by what I was told. Doen't matter anyway, seeing as its now on the scrap heap!

LOL, those V8 SL's Kev had were most likely mine anyway! The set I originally had I nicked off a mate. He bought them to fit on his EL XR8 but never did, so I took them. I left the fronts at Kev’s when they swapped them for the ones I gave you!

Christ Shaun, if the stuff I gave you is 10x better, then I hate to see what you had! I would say that the stuff I have in mine now is 10x better than what I gave you! Hope you enjoy being back in lebo creep mode! :P

As for what my setup is, Whiteline Sports Low springs and matching Boge shocks. Sits roughly XR height, which is perfect. I actually bottomed out for the first time again last night, but then I did hit a speed hump at 40km/h! The fact that the car still moves is a testament to how good this setup is!

Re: EL Grandpa machine

Postby ClassicAU » June 22nd, 2010, 12:53 pm

Got the rear muffler added to my Lukey system, and it did what I wanted to do and shut the thing up a fair bit which is good. Only side affect is that it now sounds hollow and tinny when I get up the thing. So to try and alleviate that, I now have in my possession the Pacemaker 4499’s iliov sold to me last night! Hopefully they give it a nice fuller sound. As per the suggestion by my new exhaust bloke, I will also change the cat at the same time of fitting these. Not sure if I will be able to get that done before the USA trip next Thursday, but I’ll see how I got.

I have also been considering doing a cam as well, to try and make it like my first AU. I initially though about just finding another AU XR6 HP cam, but after talking to our friend Jason have been suggested I look for something a bit harder! Unfortunately (or fortunately, I am not sure) I have the hybrid motor with AU head. Jason suggested looking at the AU equivalent of a 977b. Does anyone know what that might be, or have any other cam suggestions? Don’t want anything too spastic, as it will still be my daily. This will be looked at after I get back next month.

Ouch, gees, tough crowd! Fine, it will save me money anyway! Lucky I didn't mention the other idea I had of leaving the car with Josh while I am in America so he can stick his kit on it and boost it for me!! That probably wouldn't have gone down to well! :P

Re: EL Fail machine

Postby ClassicAU » June 25th, 2010, 3:24 pm

The fail rolls on. Dropped the car off this morning at my local Trans/Diff place to have what I thought was a LSD I had sitting in my garage installed in the car today. Obviously it wasn’t, just another pegger. Why I was surprised is beyond me, but anyway. I should have known it was going to turn out bad, as the day started off shit to begin with. I made the booking, being told one price and that I would be able to drop the car off at 8am and be given a lift to work. Well, the bloke I spoke to wasn’t even there at all. Come quarter past, one of the mechanics kindly gave me a lift.
So I get one call about 2 hours later, saying that the “LSD” I have is a different type and the gear ratio cannot be used. Fair enough, it was only 3.23 anyway. Then another 2 hours later, the inevitable call comes. “Mate, who sold you that diff? It’s a single spinner, you’ve been stooged!” Anyway, I had a feeling it was, but had been told otherwise by a few people who looked at it. So then the diff bloke said he would hunt around for one for me, which was good of him. Unfortunately, either no one had one, or he made half an attempt and gave up.
Anyway, after all that, I now have a recoed 3.08 pegger and two new wheel barings, and will be relieved of $400 when I go to get the car tonight, if I can make it.

Kristo, but I am not blaming him. He was clear to me that he was unsure it was a LSD or not when I bought it. That's not the issue, its that I took it to a few other people who said they knew what they were on about, but obviously didn't.
I am more dissapointed in myself really, that I let myself get taken again, instead of actually checking it.
