193.3rwkw

lol afr was 10.9:1 by about 3 grand so it needs a tune BAD, but kinda lucky that its rich not lean, and thats on 4psi, and like no prep work or anything, old plugs old oil, it got wheelspin on the dyno cos it was my first time using the dyno, and pod filter is dirtier than a 2 dollar hooker and intake pipe is pretty shit bendy pipe, so now ive got my base of how much power the car had when i got it, ill do a few things like clean pod redo some shit, get a proper tune and see what power i can make on 4psi

and no that isnt me making up excuses for the low power that just me explaining what the condition was in to make that power...

10psi on a 5 litre isnt the same as 10psi on a 3 litre lol
plus, would leave more scope for when you want to up it to 15psi ;)

anyway, will be good to see the results once you get the tune and what not sorted.

yeah at this stage if i do end up doing more work it comes down to which way i want to go... either
motor rework (starr manifold, new tune, 10ish psi, 355, 92mm tb etc etc etc) and leave 3.08 single and the t5 and hope for the best
OR
mal wood t56 conversion AND 3.9/4.11 lsd/ spool with 31 spline axles and leave the motor / boost combo and retune it etc etc

cant afford to do both any time soon, and not going to really change much on the car any time soon other than tune and clean up etc etc until i get a daily or something as im now a 25-30min drive to work not 5mins like where i used to work

Do the diff and box first, trust me, 200rwkw with a bombproof drivetrain would be shitloads more fun than 400rwkw and a drivetrain with the structural integrity of Kevin Rudds spine.

with the T56 and 4.11s it will be pretty spastic to drive even on 4psi lol
you will certainly be able to thrash it more

Hell yeah man, go driveline route first fow shiz! I made that mistake with the first AU, and it ended in me crackin it and flogging the bastard! I recon if I’d have done the KAAZ and gearbox first like I planned to, and not fell for the romance of power, I’d most likely still have the car! As has been said, it will still be mad fun with its current power and a tough driveline.

In the AU Trav? Yeah, all sorts mate!! The diff was stuffed, cos I got suckered in, as usual, and did it half arsed. I had a "brand new" standard spec LSD built, and mashed it in a year. That was even before the boost! As soon as I added the boost, the PBR XR6 spec clutch cracked it, and the single pegger I had in there didn't like it at all! The gearbox itself was ok, but then again I only had boost for like a month, so I'm sure that would have died eventually too.
So this is all stuff that is going to need to be done either way, so might as well do it once and do it right, and save yourself the pain!

Taken from vnssclub

psi355 wrote:a t5 is only as strong as the goon behind the wheel

had a 355, 10psi powerdyne blower, 360rear wheel wih a t5 for 4 years no worries. Sold car minus the blower and the dude blew the box and chipped a tooth on the diff within a month

keep 28 spline axles, they are strong enough, wack in a mini spool if you want or tighten the lsd
keep the 3.08 gears with it blown it wont matter that much and will still pull hard
keep the standard manifold, with boost your forcing the air in and 10psi the starr wont make much of a difference if at all
wack in a crane 284 cam with a 355 blown this will be a nice streetable car to drive, that should scar some of your mates
there, iv'e just knocked off a few things so the budget is looking good
mate iv'e been down your path, these are just my opinion's and my expierence with blown combo's
cheers
claydo

some of that i agree with, im fairly mechanically sympathetic most of the time i drive, however i do occasionally thrash the ass out of stuff... i just wouldnt feel confident however keeping the t5 and either single banger or lsd(would wear out fairly quick id immagine) or a spool with 28 spline axles... ive been down that path, i dont know how long the axles were in it for or whatever, but the one which didnt snap was also bent so im not too keen on that... id have to go 31 splines to be able to confidently drive it...

get the diff built properly first, then get a 6 speed in it or a tough auto. once that is done you can crank the boost up worry free

The EB XR6 I had years back made similar power to that - 271rwhp/203rwkw on 6psi at about 4000rpm. I figured out years later that the valve springs were stuffed, so I probably could have gotten more by replacing them.

I think mine was making 5.5psi at the TB to make 195rwkw. I guess its just manifold restrictions then or something?

as i said ev, the pod looks like its been on there since WW2, and the AFR is 11:1.

proper tune and new pod should see 220 on same boost.

also to add to the above, 200rwkw from a blown V8 certainly feels faster than 200rwkw from a blown 6 lol
we're not talking about windsors here either, manual holden V8s are fkn fun to drive with a bit of power.

What are the 355 strokers like on these motors? Are they as gay as the 347 stroker on the 5l?
