g'day everbody my name's Matt
im just about 17 an loving my Fords to death
im hoping to get myself an EF series 2 or EL, xr6 for my first car, hopefully with the body kit, as it looks sooo much better ;) , also im gunna try to put a set of bf mk2 typhoon shoes on it, tho i will have a budget so not much else to start with
im hoping to be cruising around with all of ya's an getn to know all of ya's at whatever get togethers that there are
im obviously a noobie so any1 willing to giv me a nudge in the right direction in terms of makn friends an so on would be greatly appreciated
i love pretty much all the e series, the ea im not too keen on in some ways coz of the grey section between the tail lights but otherwise love the eb an ed
oh and also any tips on the ef, el xr6 would be sweet
an a few q's for any1 to answer:
1) do they go?(when stock)
2) hows the fuel echo?

Welcome Matt,

1) they go orright (when stock). They can do mid 15s down the 1/4. The manuals go harder than the autos & make a better "drivers car", although I'm more than happy with my two autos (see sig)
2) they're good on fuel for long trips, the manual is better than the auto for city economy.

There's a cruise planned for the Great Ocean Road on Sunday 9th, we have one every year. Details on the cruise & premeets can be found here:

Dont worry your not the only learner here, im one myself im 17 and have a EF futura, long trips at a constant speed i can get 170km to 1/4 a tank then about 180km out of 2/4 of a tank but once it goes past half a tank it drinks that like a fish, plus ive got my car tuned for octane 98 .but on short trips around town and booting it constantly coz your exhaust sounds cool doesent help it lol

It does..??

Perhaps the needle just isn't accurate until the tank reaches the half way point.

I know with my EB I get 160 K's or something before the needle drops down to the Full tank point, then goes pretty consistently from there. Perhaps the same sorta thing's occuring to your EF? I don't see how having less petrol in your tank would make your car less fuel efficient, I woulda thought minorly more so due to the less weight?? :P

Anyway Reaper, hope you get what you're after mate, was planning on something alone the lines of an ELxr6/8 before I had a crash a little while ago. Ended up having to pay out my savings for debts and yeah, decided to stick to an old EB until I finish TAFE which won't be deppreciating anymore in value.. + It's a bloody fantastic car.

So yeah, welcome to the forums :P

And with fuel economy, personally I think it's terrible. I'm on petty; it costs me $20 for a hundred K's, GO GAS.

welcome to the forums mate. i was exactly lilke you when i first started out. only wanted to mod the hell out of everything... my dream car was an EB lowered on rims... got one of them, then my dream car was an EF lowered on rims... got one of them too! they are a descent car for people starting out, and there is generally a bit of knowledge floating around on forums to give you enough info to not go pay through the nose for repairs.

shameless plug...

is this what you are looking for? click me!

best thing about the falcons is they respond to mods really well, especially forced induction.

look forward to crusin in the future!

ahhk all sounds sweet looks like ill stick to me guns with the xr6, an yeh as some of ya's hav sed i think gas would help lol

btw the e series are great but i think most of you will agree that when stock they sumtimes hav that disgusting airey whyning sound coming from the exhaust like they r bout to die......therefore the new exhaust system was invented to make them sound as sexy as they look ;)

and in response to that yes and no, i want the xr6 with body kit and i wanna stay away from engine mods till im off my p's if i can...."IF i can" lol
but all the same, nice car :)
an u just reminded me if i cant get the typhoon rims i want those XR rims coz they r also bloody hot :D

.......hmmm onli 1 year and 1 day till i can get my P's :( i.e my b/day tomoz

Welcome! Something to think about with aiming for an XR6 is the insurance, even though they are stuff all different to the base models the insurance companies mark up their premiums on them because they are listed as a sports car.

Can you get the typhoon rims in e-series offset? You can get the AU XR8 series 2 rims that's for sure...

get a stally & a mild cam for it, there's no way insurance would be able to pick up on those ;)

Mild cam? "err, it's got some bad fuel in the tank"
Stally? "err, the torque converter's on its way out, slipping a little :)"

*NOTE: obviously the stally is superfluous if you get a manual

Diff gears are also good fun & a hard-to-spot mod.

I love the look of the MK2 typhoon rims on an EL, dumped like hell, and none of that wing shit.

There's a VERY nice gun metal grey EL fairmont floating around here in Lilydale (assuming you're from around here as bloody everyone seems to be), I went to school with the guy who owns it. No. plate 'Gilzy'. Has the mk2 Typhoon rims, bonnet bulge, de-badged, extremely clean/straight, very well done. Just looks and feels like it's had a shitload spent on it, fucking mint.
