4 die in Westgate crash inferno

Bad sht..

http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/ ... 16925.html

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/ ... 61,00.html

You'd be fkn ODing if you were in the car that was racing it.

Low speed sht is OK, burnouts etc... racing at stupid speeds with 4 people in the car is dumb.

Wow thats horrible! imagine how those who were alongside the car must be feeling! Hope it makes people realise how bad things can get from messing round on the roads.

A friends sister was in a drag a few years back. Her bf was driving. They stacked at beach st (just up from frankston rsl where flowers are on a tree). He survived but he killed her. I would hate to live with that guilt for the rest of my life :(

I went past that last night around 7.30ish. I didn't see the actual damage, but there were cops EVERYWHERE, interestingly I didn't see smoke, or the firies/ambos (mustn't have been looking hard enough). Traffic banked up for 3 or 4 kms back towards the westgate, with the last km being empty. I was watching cars in the westbound side heading back east doing 80kph, it was trippy as. Cops had completely closed off the highway from the end of the bridge, forcing everyone into the exit lane there.

Peak-hour high speed shit FTL. If you're going to do it, save it for 3am, and with less (no?) passengers...

*edit* I don't do the high speed shit, just skids & traffic light grand prix

I read that comment and thought it was well said, didn't realise it was posted by you sunny :P that's the way it should be. There are so many older people on the roads who are far more dangerous. I reckon once you hit 50yrs you should get eyes/ears tested and also do a driving test every couple of years.

When I first saw that article early this morning my heart skipped a beat, my gf lives in Altona and drives a VP. But I was talking to her last night so it couldn't have been her, phew.

Then I remembered her brother has a VN HSV and drives like an absolute fuckstick. His car is white (which the article confirmed), and he is always drag racing people at the TLGP and on the freeway. I saw an image of the crashed car though and the rims were different from his (pretty much all that was left of the car), so luckily it wasn't him.

I hope the general public will eventually realize that it doesn't matter what vehicle you give a P-plater, they will still drive it with the maturity and competence that they possess.

If they are lacking in either department the consequences can be fatal.

It never ceases to amaze me how little recollection people have of their time as a P-plater. I'm sure all of these d1ckheads getting up on their high horses did some really dumb shit as a P-plater. I know my I did in my NA 4cyl 50rwkw Datsun- plenty of it could have killed me.

Jared it's a little bumpy around that area for some reason (uneven settling of the subbase), maybe hitting bumps at speed (possibly with chopped springs & stock shocks?) caused the driver to lose control?

I think defensive driving courses should be compulsory and subsidised in some form, even if it means upping everyone's rego costs by say $20 (to cover part of the costs). That would go a lot farther in saving lives than placing bullshit restrictions on car type & passenger count.

Thats true actually, theres a very large bump in the right lane just as it crosses over the bridge over the train line.

to Sundeep of mooroolbark, you simply have no idea. You say to ban all p platers from driving v8's is ridiculous and that they should be allowed to drive what they want. And yourself at the age of 21, with all your years of wisdom i guess you must be right. People want bans introduced to save young people from themselves and save US, the law abiding drivers that also use the road. Get a clue , moron. Posted by: Vincent Ludwig of doveton 12:11pm today

Sundeep Sandhu wrote "Maybe instead of spending money on more knee jerk legislations they should give us race tracks and make advanced driving courses cheaper". Sundeep if your advice was heeded pray tell where will the idiots practise? When ever Calder Park holds a drag or burn out meeting our local suburb is alive with the sound of burning rubber because the idiots don't want to lose face in front of their mates is they don't 'win'. People are always gonna die in car accidents. No amount of "training" will stop people from doing crazy speeds. Advanced driving courses are bullshit. None of the skills you learn there will help you when you're doing 140 kph. Give everyone 4 cylinder shit boxes? You can still write yourself off in one. And what happens when you turn 21 and are allowed to own a V8? Like **** everyone has grown up by the time they're 21.

The kid's dad on the news saying they knew he was reckless and just hoped he'd grow out of it in his mid 20's nailed it. Kids will be kids. Kids will kill themselves being kids. Sad but true.

Agreed

The fact of the matter is though that give someone an excel or a veyron they can still manage to kill themselves and others just fine, the only thing that changes is the time it takes to get to a speed that is unsafe. Yes it was stupid on their behalf to do what they were doing but my history isn't exactly flawless either so i'm in no position to judge. My best wishes to those affected by this tradgedy.

I reckon...maybe they are just hoping the collateral damage from the inevitable smash is lesser - a ke30 wagon would do less damage as it came through your fence into your house at 100km/h than a GTR would :P

My brother is a prime example of why slower cars don't necessarily = more safety - his first car was a KE70 rolla, absolutely bog stock, and fk me, the wheel-work and angles he achieved in the wet were something to behold!!! I wish I had vids, he impressed the shit out of me!

P.S. At first I thought the title of this thread was "4 die in Wastegate crash inferno" and I was like, "wastegate crash? BBQ??"

Man that shit is fuct. It hits home, coz my little brother is still like he used to be. He rang me the other day just to tell me he did a 720 in his blown statesman.
"Jared! Guess what? I just did a 720 in the stato!"
I was like "A 720? what the ****? do you mean?"
And he replied "Yeah! I was trying to drift on the freeway at 150km/h in the wet, I nailed it once, but the second time the fuel load was a little heavy and it just looped with the momentum and spun out and did a 720!".

Makes me shit scared, even though I know I'm the same.

EDIT: I have a feeling that with a full car load, this poor young'un has had the front's lift as the arse squats after those big bumps, and over corrected since the front "felt light" and when it regained traction it snapped the rear out and spun him off. At 150-160km/h, it would have been "light" for far longer (distance and time) than it would have been normally. Poor kid.

Yeah I agree that that section of the westgate is fukd. It's bumpy as in both directions...it pretty much gets bumpy from just after Williamstown Rd up to Grieve Pde. I'm tipping the commy was lowered plus with 4 people in the car it probably hit a bump and almost bounced off the road. Wouldn't take much movement in either direction to lose it at that speed. Poor kents. But sif u would race with a full car.....My mate did that once when we were still in yr 12 and he had just got his license.....Booted it down Canterbury Rd in a tin can VH Commo with 5 or 6 people (all i remember is we were crammed in without seatbelts)....he didn't ask, just did it. He was lucky to not get the shit kicked out of him by everyone when he stopped.

Re: 4 die in Westgate crash inferno

Just watched a news article up here on this accident.

They briefly showed a pic of the road, showing the skid marks.

The rate-of-change of direction of that car is NO WAY equal to a car travelling at 160km/h, as was claimed.

I've had some huge spins at QR, (and a couple on the street ) at all different speeds, from small 180* loops at 40km/h all the way up to massive uncontrollable 130km/h slides-of-death(tm) on the way out of turns one and two.

In my opinion, cars doing 160km/h slide in a much more gentle arc than the marks on the road suggest, I'd say closer to or under 120 - I think oneredED has the closest guess - the car probably got a bit light over the bumps, (maybe they were braking hard after having a race) and a little tail wiggle turned into a huge spin - bad luck really, combined with youthful exhuberance :(

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

Saw the same thing and wondered how they could get such an angle doing those alleged speeds...
